What's the best sled, regardless of price, for a gap scheme, Wing-T type blocking offense. Lots of Double-Teams, Down Blocks, low pad level.

Ironically, after posting a couple days ago, we just got 12 new Riddell Speeds in yesterday. Still waiting on our Flex helmets.

We are possibly getting a new turf field in a year and our district is looking to go with the Brock in-fill which is minced up wood chips. Have any of you gone with this? I have heard it's cooler in summer but that it's not great on skinned up knees, elbows, etc.
Any feedback would be great!!

Our film won't upload straight from our iPad like Sportscope says it will. It uploads 10-15 clips that are viewable and the rest just say "complete" but on Hudl it's continuously processing. Sportscope solution is to blame it on Hudl and tell me to upload to my laptop from the iPad and then to Hudl, which works but it's an extra step and I want what I'm paying for. We've updated our iPads, cleared memory, uploaded during off-peak hours, different wifi servers, and still the same issue...frustrating!!!
Anyone experience this?
Any solutions out there other than Hudl and Sportscope blaming each other???

My Riddell rep told me the order we placed back in March for helmets this season is delayed because plastics and other materials are difficult to get, just like a lot of raw materials, due to covid. Placed our order in March and he said they might not arrive until mid-September! And if I added any late orders right now they might not arrive at all. Anyone else having this issue? FTTF

I do have a little story on using words (at my age you have a little story on everything). We had a pass play we ran inside the five or for two points. We used it a lot. We called it TED. TD....that was the association. We're at Thursday practice...going through scripted practice....get to two point play...I yell "TED" to the QB. He starts shouting "EFT, EFT, EFT" as they run on the field. They line up and run it. When they come back to the sidelines I ask him what the EFT stuff is about "Every f'ing time, coach, every f'ing time" It might be an understatement to say they had confidence in the play. Well now you have to draw up that play for us!!! Or at least explain it! FTTF

Coaches,
We are on the field next Monday and we are supposed to disinfect equipment between sessions. Has anyone who has opened up found a good disinfectant that is safe for the leather. I know athlete safety needs to trump all but at the same time, I'd like to find something that isn't destroying the leather.

Help me understand, because to me the "spirit pack" was always stuff we fundraised to raise money to buy so kids had stuff for the year. Shorts, tshirts, practice jerseys with names, etc. Made us look like a team but let us fund "consumable" stuff. It sounds like it's something you're selling? Help me out here. Just looking for what the typical team store brings in for spirit pack stuff...not selling anything. Looking for the same reason footballlife mentioned.

Questions about spirit pack store fundraising...
1. How much are your gross sales each season in spirit pack store sales?
2. How big is your program?
3. How much do you typically get back from those sales for your program?
4. Do you up the cost a certain percentage or just add a dollar amount and what amounts?
Thanks guys!

I just turned 50 so I had a goal to get in great shape before that number hit. The past couple years I have...
1. Almost completely cut out soda/pop/pepsi was my go-to. I only drink it in a restaurant at times, never at home. Used to go through a lot of it. Mostly drink Michelob Ultra or another light beer.
2. I try to limit carbs in the morning and afternoon. Only eggs for breakfast, a little creamer in my coffee. Cottage cheese and tuna at lunch or chicken with water. In the evenings I eat what I want, pizza, pasta, ice cream, etc but still limit carbs where I can and push away from the table. I don't diet, I just follow this plan and it's worked for me.
3. In-season I get up early, 4:50, and hit the gym for an hour, 3 days on, one day off. I hate cardio so I do HIIT principle lifting 3-4 days per week with super-sets on a push/pull/legs split. 3 on/1 off. I don't HIIT on leg days. I have challenged myself to squat and squat heavy. My goal was to squat 405 before 50 and I got it. At 185 I feel pretty good about that weight and won't go above 4 plates when I push it. I don't bench...shoulder issues.
4. In the spring/summer I hit the gym after school. I don't lift at my school. I go to a gym to get away, turn on the tunes, and be in my own place...it's therapeutic for me. Besides, I think lifting at school when you are supposed to be supervising could become a liability issue.
There is not one thing that works for everyone. Like others have said...limit carbs and sugar and have the discipline to get in the gym and push away from the table. I had a coach on my staff that was pushing close to 425 and he asked me to help him lose weight. I told him I'd give up ice cream for a year while we worked on it...I LOVE ICE CREAM!!! He got down below 3 bills and felt great, he's 6'6. Find someone to help you, keep you accountable!

Looking at reaching out to our alumni and challenge them to sponsor a number on the roster. This would be something like a $100 donation to "reserve" their number or a number as a sponsor. List them as a sponsor in the game program. The money would go to the general football budget and not directly to that player that wore that number. I thought this might be a good and easy way to build some financial support from our alumni. Maybe give them a t-shirt and free pass to games if they wore the shirt stating they were a number sponsor.
Has anyone done something like this? Pro's/Con's??
Thanks! FTTF

I had people tell me that I should be sprinting up and down the sidelines, yelling at everyone, jumping up and down, and doing whatever else to show emotion. First of all...great article and video!!! This is how I coach. agap I have heard the same thing from some parents and even assistant coaches. When coaches do this it becomes "white-noise" to the players and they have no idea when a situation does become critical, when you do need to raise your voice to get their attention. My kids know...when coach raises his voice you better listen. Otherwise they tune you out if you do this all the time! FTTF

Coaches,
I will be speaking on the Faster than the Fly: Gun Rocket Offense this year at the following clinics...
National Wing-T Clinic-Pittsburgh - Jan 27-28
San Francisco Glazier Clinic - Feb 3-5
Las Vegas Nike - Feb 10-12
Cleveland Glazier - Mar 10-12
I will share more in the "Calling Hybrid-t, faster than fly, jetsweep, rocket coaches" thread in General Offense, but in year one at a new job we played for the 4A state championship largely due to our hybrid wing-t offense that features the rocket sweep.

At my new gig I am looking at the fundraising model in place by the school as there are some restrictions in place that will cause some challenges to your typical football program. I am looking for any survey, research, data on cost per athlete per sport as a comparison to share with my admin. I think they are currently looking at it as an apple to apples, dollar to dollar model when I believe it needs to be looked at a little more apples to oranges, i.e. Cross Country doesn't have the overhead that football has, etc.
Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know if they still sell them but I've seen cheap plastic belts at toy stores. If somebody is just looking for something fun mostly for symbolic purposes that might be an option. I've used these since 2011. Whoever gets the most pancakes that week gets the belt. Then they have to give it to the next guy next week or get to retain it. I take it back after the last game and then hand it out to the winner at the banquet. Great idea! Any penalty for a holding call??

My Riddell rep told me that they have discontinued the 360's. We usually would get a blend of Speed and 360 each year. What is your opinion on the Flex? Like it, kids like it?
Thanks guys!

We need that faster than fly dude to stop telling people about this thing. What separates this site from a ton of other internet resources (those twitter chats definitely included) is that is hasn't morphed into a big giant circle jerk. Those chats pretty much boil down to a group of guys validating how awesome they are to each other, nothing wrong with it but it's really not all that substantive unless you are in need of some ego stroking. There are very few people on this board who consider themselves incapable of being wrong, which is bizarre because it seems to me we work in a profession that is mostly "alpha" types who'd cut off their own thumbs before they'd admit to not being perfect. I think the anonymity of the site is helpful in that regard. It's okay to ask "what is a 3 technique?" on here and get a straight answer without having to worry about looking stupid because you don't really know anybody and they don't know you. I'm glad the site is getting some publicity and hope its founders can make some money off of it, but man it would suck if all the douche's started pouring in with their visors, red bull's..vaping nicotine and telling everybody how it is Fshamrock Someone had to go and prove your point in the General Offense section with the Revolutionary Offense! I guess I need to stop sharing CoachHuey.com at clinics!

Posting philosophy for me for what it's worth.
I try to contribute things I know that I know for sure. Things that have worked for us, things that may be different that others might want to try for themselves. I refuse to be the guy that responds to every topic and question on the board with their opinion and they somehow have input into every offensive/defensive scheme and topic. There are guys on here with a lot more years in their spot-bilts than me and I know they have seen it all and can comment on a lot, I respect those guys and take note.
Appreciate the knowledge, the wit, and the humor on the board!

When I speak at clinics, typically 4-6 each year I always ask..."Who in here is on CoachHuey.com?" Then I say..."Write this website down, it will be the best thing you get at this clinic this weekend!" Besides the Faster than the Fly Offense of course! I am always amazed, when I ask, how few raise their hand. In a room of over 80 this weekend in Tulsa there were about 3 that raised their hand.
Then I tell them to apologize in advance for me, to their wives, girlfriends, employers as I have added something to your lives that will affect your time at home, at work and on the toilet!
Each year I get about a half-dozen coaches that email me thanking me for CoachHuey.com Don't thank me, thank all the coaches that make this site so great!!

2010 Quarter-Finals. Turned the ball over 4 times inside the 10, two of those inside the 5. Last one was a slant from the 9, WR wide open, ball deflects off his hands and right into the hands of a safety behind him. That was with 30 seconds left.
We lost 14-11.
The team we lost to went on to win it all.

Every year I talk to our team about how everyone in the school has a job they are responsible for during homecoming week to make it a fun and successful week. Class sponsors, stuco, teachers, cheerleaders, AND football players.
Our job is to PREPARE WELL for, and WIN the homecoming game!! The homecoming week "theme" every year has been to get OUR job done and it has made it a tolerable week over the years. I think having that theme has helped the kids to focus in.
