Masks were optional in school after the last day of school. Most aren’t wearing them now during summer school. I haven’t heard of any big restrictions yet for football this fall.

It didn't seem like there were more openings this year. I've heard the opposite of other people though. People have been excited to get out of the house after spending so much time at home in the past year.

The only time we do 1 v 1 is if we have extra time during Indy and we wan to give the kids a break from drills. It's still not often though. I think we did it once last year.

I'm assuming he's talking about St. Thomas in Minnesota. There have been many threads and articles about their defense.
I will say it helps if you're twice as big as the next biggest school and three times as big as the majority of the other schools in the conference. They also have the most money which means they have the best facilities, which ultimately helps in recruiting.

We have gotten the same thing the last couple years. We just tell them they can either be a linemen and play or they can play a different position and stand on the sideline. That usually convinces them.

We haven't brought players in on Saturday morning for the most part anywhere I've coached. The coaches watch film on their own and then we meet Sunday night. We have a lot of players who farm, hunt, and fish so we wouldn't have good attendance if we tried to bring them in on Saturdays.

As much as I would like spring ball as a coach, this would probably be an issue for us every year so part of me is glad we don't have spring practice. They can play baseball now and by the time it's late June-early July, they're ready for football.

D2 schools are playing now in Minnesota. They're basically just scrimmaging other teams though from what I understand.

Anybody go 7 pad girdle and shorts instead of practice pants? We don't do much full contact, but planned on doing the small amount in the 7 pad girdle and shorts. Figured it may save our kids legs some. Anybody else do something similar? Most definitely not being snarky, but I don't see how a couple ounces of cloth will 'save our kids legs' to any degree. There are much better ways to accomplish that. Now if you're looking to save costs, having to issue 1 less item, etc..; then... I haven't read the rest of the thread, but my guess is if they just use girdles/shorts, the tempo won't be full contact. If they wear pants, the tempo will be full contact. That would save their legs.

Defensively, we have a two-week install schedule to start the year. Sometimes we stop a couple days in and sometimes we follow it until the second week. It depends on the team. We won't continue following it regardless of how well we're executing what's already installed. If we're struggling, we slow down or even stop. At the same time, we might need something installed for the first game or two so we'll make sure they're in early enough even if we're struggling.

Instructional videos if I'm learning something for the first time. After that, I need to see film of it. Some of the best things we've done over the years were things we got just from watching someone else's film.

It's Twitter. What did you expect? Exactly! Twitter & the other social media platforms are nothing but a cancer. I'll admit that I check some people's Twitter for some of the things they post about football or sports, but I won't have it myself again. I see how obsessed my students are with social media and it makes me realize that I don't want to do the same thing as an adult.

How do you watch film? If I watch on my phone or iPad on the couch, I'll get tired. I can sit on my computer all night and watch film though.

We have a practice plan. We've had a practice plan everywhere I've coached. I agree with the others though. You can be organized and on-time without one and you can be unorganized with one. Personally I prefer having one.

Our JH is on a separate field but it's right next to our practice field. It'd be difficult to practice on the same field because you wouldn't have much room and you'd tear up the grass quickly.

dcohio also doesn't post anymore either. I'm sure some members left after he stopped posting.
That guy knows his stuff inside and out; he's a great source of information. His situation also proved to be a good lesson for coaches on here about the lack of anonymity on the Internet. A disgruntled parent within his program figured out his Huey handle and tried to use it to get him fired.
Does he still coach there? I never heard what happened as a result of that.

I follow a few football pages on Facebook (don't use Twitter) and my only issue is the "dressed-up" misinformation. There are guys on there that post up some fantastically detailed videos and diagrams but it's obvious that they're keyboard coaches. There's some pretty obvious flaws within the scheme that they won't address. Everything is going to look pretty when you're running the Wing-T against a 4-3 Over C2.. I haven’t had Facebook in 15 years, but I like looking at clips and diagrams on Twitter even though I don’t have it. They give you an idea and then you can research it more. I realized you won’t learn everything about a concept on Twitter so it wasn’t worth having anymore for me. You’re limited on Twitter with how much you can explain.

I agree but Twitter seems to be the trend among younger coaches. I think that one thing that's slowed things down has been that a lot of the guys who've been on here have retired. I know that since I've retired I still enjoy discussing general topics but not Xs and Os. This describes me as well. I still enjoy general football discussions, overall philosophical issues etc. I really don't have much of an appetite for indepth discussions of how to Play a Rip/liz version of Palms against mesh when you get a fast 3 Unfortunately you have to do all those things nowadays or you'll give up 50+ points per game. I wish we didn't have to do so much on defense but it's necessary now.

There is Twitter like someone else said plus all the podcasts and online clinics. When I first started coaching, there was Glazier, coaches association clinic, and Huey. Now I can find just about anything I want on a podcast or online clinic. There's so much detail that you can get into with Huey, and back and forth discussion you don't get in a podcast or online clinic I agree, which is why I don't have Twitter anymore. I'd ask about things I saw on there and I would get a reply that didn't really explain anything.

I realize I’m probably getting too old to stay in coaching. We won the schools first state championship this year. The football team is getting patches and rings. But amazingly to me, the band and cheerleaders are also getting state patches. I’m the only coach on the staff that thinks this is bizarre. I expect the cheerleading coach to help line the field and the band director to raise funds for Hudl assist to get us back to State. And “STAY OFF MY LAWN!!” Never heard of patches for this, assuming its for a letter jacket or something similar. If that's all they get then big deal. They will sew it on their jacket, wear it for their high school years, get to college or the real world and realize they will get destroyed for wearing a letter jacket after high school and never wear it again. You and your guys will have the rings that you will wear anytime you want and people will always ask or have something nice to say about it. We won a state title in 2000. School paid for basic ring. We could upgrade to real gold for like 200.00 back then. I went back and forth and finally did. Had it appraised a few years ago and it was almost a full oz of gold. Needles to say I know exactly where the ring is. No clue about any of the other stuff we got for winning it that year..... I agree. I'd be more happy about getting a ring than a patch. I haven't seen a letter jacket in this area for years. I assumed people stopped wearing them. I never knew you could get patches on them for winning to state. That shows how much I paid attention to them.

NDSU has built a tradition that draws the attention of kids who could potentially be playing in the Big 10 and Big 12. They draw some of the best FCS level talent as well as quality kids that could be playing at bigger schools. I was going to say the same thing. They're getting players who are getting Big 10 offers from teams like Minnesota and going to NDSU instead. Then they develop them once they're there.

Our plan is to have one either later this winter or early spring. They might decide to not have one at all or we might not be able to, but the plan now is to wait to have one in-person.

Ames' QB is a hell of an athlete. Big time basketball player. FT Dodge has a decent RB. I bet that was a fun one. It was. We went after our season was initially cancelled in Minnesota. There were some good athletes playing in that game. It's also a nice stadium there in Fort Dodge.

I went to watch Fort Dodge vs Ames in IA this August. The final score was 81-54. Not the craziest but I hadn't seen a game like that in a while. It was a competitive game too.
