We raised money for new equipment just by contacting Alumni. It was sort of a spur of the moment fundraiser but it still netted 10K.

We run them for everything as well. If it is unexcused they do not play or they turn their gear in.

I really like anything with a good beat and clean lyrics. Anything that gets the hair on my arms to stand up works well.

We are having them in at 930 for a quick lift and then on the field immediately after. It is just our walk through day so we will probably have them all home by 11 or 11:30. This is my first time practicing on Thanksgiving so I am VERY thankful for it.

Sometimes people take things one step too far and then just keep going. It is pretty sad when that happens and I truly feel sympathy for the people who think that way.

For me, I have to feel respected, feel valued, and have some influence on the situation in order to be happy. If I'm not getting those things, all the winning in the world won't make me happy. Maybe I'm just selfish, but I believe just about everyone is like that. If I'm not happy and don't see very good odds of ever being happy in a position, I look to fix that by looking for a place more in line with what I value. I agree with this 100%. There has to be some sort of mutual respect. Now I am not saying you have to bend over backwards for it and vice versa, coaching is a very give and take type of relationship as you all know, but you do deserve some respect from your bosses.

Z-cools are very in right now. They are affordable and durable. I know my old teams have used TAG pads before and enjoyed them. If you have the money though I would go Power pads all day long.

I would say put together a great workout to keep kids in shape and nothing more. Don't beat yourself up if kids aren't showing up, especially if you intend on leaving. Do what you can to make sure kids are lifting and being active.

I think if there if you guys are able to move to a different conference you should consider it.
We had a team who was a middle of the pack team, for the most part, had a few up years and had more down years. Long story short, they moved to another conference and finished this season 8-1 and tied for conference champs. Sometimes it helps the program.

Show them the numbers. let them know how many student-athletes get scholarships for football as compared to basektball and baseball. Some of them will be quite alarmed by that.
Also try working with the other sports coaches and see if THEY can persuade some kids to go out to "stay in shape" and help the school.

We have a strange practice scenario... A little insight on this, coach... Well we really are only on the field about 70 minutes a day. We don't do too much scout team or anything like that. More warm up, a little individual offense, maybe some individual defense, special teams, team defense and then team offense on air.

I am about the same. I might focus a little more on Friday nights but for the most part everything is the same. We have a strange practice scenario so I try to get on the board with the kids (offensive line) immediately after our first few drives to discuss alignments so during that time I am a little animated and energetic.

Teach as normal. Get in a workout and eat lunch (salad from the grocery store and a lo-carb Monster) then after school we have pre-game meal, eat that and go sit in the office messing around on the computer until it is time for me to start taping. Then change into game shirt, grab my seeds and 6 piece of bubble gum and away we go!

I take stats both offensively and defensively after our games and plug them into Maxpreps. I feel like it is a good site to use and really we have no problems with it and our kids. They have good competitiveness with it and I feel like they are pretty accurate stats.
I know defensive stats can be the real hard part because everybody takes them down differently.

There will always be jackwagons who think they know more than they know. Usually I just ignore them, keep my opinions to myself and coach my position as best as I can to prepare them for the upcoming opponent.

Again it seems like everybody else in here, I have been on both ends of this. Have taken some beatings where the opposition is throwing the ball still in the fourth quarter and have taken some where it seems like they are playing all of their sophomores and running dive.
I have also been criticized once for throwing a halfback pass right after halftime to get a running clock. After that play I subbed everybody out and ran dive and iso.
I believe it is my responsibility as a coach to score points and try to win the game. It is the oppositions job to try and stop me. That being said there comes a certain point in the game where passes, trick plays and onside kicks get to be rubbing it in and trying to run up the score. Those points aren't necessary and hurt everybody involved.

A lot of cardio, up to 25 miles a week. I also try to lift 4 times a week after practice or during planning periods. I usually work out with the team on Saturdays too. On top of that I really watch what I eat during the season. I try to avoid the fast food and junk, except for after games on Fridays when I eat pizza and beer.

AAU sports is ruining HS athletics. Now all of a sudden there is year round baseball and basketball and kids focus on one sport instead of enjoying high school and playing multiple sports. I know that was one really long sentence with little punctuation, sorry.

I agree with all these posts. Don't waste your time on the kids who want to waste time. Put your time into the kids that WANT to get better and prepare themselves to get better.

This is VERY encouraging to me. I recently got hired to coach offensive line at a school that went 2-8. We have the potential to go 8-2 or better this next season as long as the kids all buy in and get on the boat. There will be some that are left behind but that is the nature of the beast.

I try my best not to curse. Sometimes one slips out and I apologize for it. If I hear the kids cursing I make them do pushups or burpees, the number depends on the curse word.
