We wash all our kids' laundry daily. In the warm months, we wash everyone's cloth. As it cools down, we wash JV and V on separate days. We use laundry loops. Different coaches help washing, drying, and hanging back in the locker.

We have had a lot of success selling them for $25 to parents and girlfriends. I will sell them at that price for two years (typically sell 25-30 total) and then discount them to $10 while trying to convince the student section to have a "throwback jersey" night!

We do a "Pre-Practice" warmup... Offensive Skill does a Pat & Go circuit, OL does board work, and the Defense does some type of Set Rec or Run Fit.

Thanks, thinking that could be a good easy fundraiser for our lower levels to run. Did the fundraising company suggest a specific time of year that works best? At the time, they were running about 75 fundraisers a year... We fit in what he thought would be the best for what they had opened.

With the media guide, you want the Front inside page and Back outside page to cover the cost of production. After that, everything is profit. We do a discount card an require every kid to sell 8 cards at $20 apiece. At 8 kids they get practice shorts / shirt. At 20 cards sold, they get a free card (to sell or keep) and an incentive (Nike Elite socks or something equivalent). At 25 cards sold, they get another free card and another incentive (think wind jacket embroidered / book bag / gloves etc...). The last incentive is at 30 cards for another free card and a nice jacket, or fleece, etc.. We have profited over $27,000 the past two years from this. Our 2nd big fundraiser is with a mattress company that takes out the middle man and the brick/mortar to sell at a discounted price. We get $100 per mattress and have made$3800 the past two years. We also do a webstore with a local apparel guy that can net close to $1000 alone. For the mattress fundraiser that you do, did you make $3800 per year? Also, how big of a school district do you have? Just curious what it takes to sell 38 mattresses to net you the $3800 you've made off the fundraiser. $3,800 over two years. I think we sold 24 mattresses the first year and 14 the second year. That was at a small (1,000 kids), rural school. We did the sell in February / March thinking people would have their tax returns back. I have since changed schools. If I did it again, I would probably do it in June / July to catch the incoming Freshmen college kids.

"I've got a kid who is sneaky and I honestly don't trust him and don't want him around our team. It's widely believed that he is involved in drug dealing and other illegal activity although he's never been caught. Administration and even law enforcement are onto him. He's one of those smart kids who thinks he's invincible, above authority and rules, and that he'll never get caught. The "problem" is he hasn't been caught doing anything."
This is the original post. I would never kick a kid off for being Tardy. The original poster spoke to a much more serious offender. If this type of kid wanted to come out for my team, I would first meet with my AD and Principal to let them know my concerns. I would also let them know that I hoped football could help him get away from these mistakes. I would also let them know (which they already do and I am in year one at my school) that I do not want to allow his believed behavior to rub off on other plays. I would then ask them what they thought about writing up a behavior contract. If they approved, they Principal, AD, me, and the student and his parents would sign.
FTR, I have never done this. But I have worked with plenty of coaches who have done this with great success. It is not for the kid who chews gum in class. It is for the habitual offender.

How do you "have the AD and principal sign" and "Make sure they back you up"?
What if they won't or don't - or can't when parents go over their heads to superintendent and-or BOE?
When push comes to shove - such contracts aren't worth very much.
a contract signed by a minor might as well be used as TP.... As are asinine arguments on a message board.

Have him sign a contract that outlines he is on a very short leash. Have the AD and principal sign as well. Make sure they back you up. Then, any issues in the classroom or outside of school will disqualify him from participating. As soon as he is late to class, gets suspended, or post pics on social media smoking weed, get rid of him. How do you "have the AD and principal sign" and "Make sure they back you up"?

Multiple Winter sports athletes have been dismissed from teams in the past few weeks at our school. If the AD and Principal signed off on a behavior contract, it will be honored. If parents want to go to the Superintendent or BOE because their little Johnny was removed from the football team after he got into a fight, smoked some dope, or threw up some gang signs at school, let them. Have a backbone as a coach and teach our young men their are consequences.

Absolutely you can. Read my second sentence. Get the AD and Principal's signature. If a kid gets suspended 10 days for fighting, he is dismissed from the team, period. While he wears your jersey, he is a direct reflection on your team. Playing sports is a privilege, not a right.

I want to start a program where our players recognize teachers , and we make a big deal about them. A jerseys to wear, attend pre game meal, stand on sideline , etc. Anyone ever do this and have ideas to share on how to implement and it went? We have all our Varsity players pick a teacher that has impacted them in some way (or whose class they know will be tough so they want to get on their good side) to wear their away jersey. I email the entire staff a few days ahead of time and let them know what will be going on. I give the teachers only a few instructions: 1. if you accept a jersey, please come to the game that night wearing your athlete's jersey 2. please do NOT wash the jersey. Send it back to me on Monday 3. if possible, come onto the field after the game and take pictures with your athlete This is my fist year at this school. We did it this year on a pep rally Friday and the teachers went nuts. The school admin took a picture after the pep rally of all the teachers and athletes and put on the school website. As awesome as it is to do once or twice a season, I would recommend stopping there as there are always 1-2 teachers you have to hunt down for jerseys. lol

I have a parent who wants to purchase something "nice" for all of our players at the banquet. She mentioned "medals, like in the Olympics." I am thinking something else... The amount she wants to give to do so equals about $4-5 / player. Anyone have any ideas?

When I was in high school, our LT lost his mouthpiece one game. As we were going back to the huddle, he is looking around for it. A DL hollered, "is this it?" and stuck it down the front side of his pants. We went on to the huddle, got the play, and started back towards the LOS. When we got there, the LT asked the DT for his mouthpiece back. The DT pulls it out of his jock, says, "yummm," puts it in his mouth, and plays the play with our LT's mouthpiece that he just pulled out of his jock in his mouth. When the play ended, he gave it to our LT or proceeded to put it back in his mouth.

We bought weight room equipment 10 or so years ago from a college. It was great equipment and we got it at a great price. Anytime I go to a clinic instate I always ask the S&C coach if they plan to get rid of anything coming up.

How many of you HCs actually pay to go to 7on7s? I have always found that thought ridiculous when I can schedule a 4-team 7on7 and get in 2 hours of solid work for free.

I have allowed the players to decide for themselves the past few years but we have also assigned them based on numerical order and positional groups where the Offense and Defense are on opposite sides of the locker room. We would typically put the QB with the OL (away from his more natural WR/RB friends) to cultivate a relationship there.

As far as I know, the National Operating Committee on Standards for Athletic Equipment (http://nocsae.org) sets the reconditioning guideline nationwide. They require helmets to be re-certified every other year. I do not think this is well known because: A. most reps want your money from reconditioning B. everyone is so afraid of concussions and lawsuits they do not want to take on that potential liability or PR nightmare
I have only ever had a Riddell rep tell the truth regarding the re-certifying guidelines. Our rep comes in at the end of every season, goes through every helmet, and will take out 10-15 helmets (typically that were not used or will expire at the end of the next season) from the piles of helmets to be sent off. In all honesty, those would be the last 10-15 helmets I would give out because of CYA.

I am thinking about watching previous game film on Saturday mornings which would allow us to watch practice / upcoming opponent film Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday's film session would be with your primary position (offense or defense) with Wednesday being with your secondary position on the opposite side of the ball.
