Phantom injuries/illnesses all week during practice that are miraculously healed 6:59 Friday night. Our rule is if you cant practice by Tuesday you sit out that Friday to "heal up". This has significantly cut down on kids trying to sit out practice all week.

We're staying with Hudl as far as hosting our film but are switching over to Gamestrat for our sideline replay. They are doing a deal where they are price matching Hudl for replay.

How many of you have talked to your rep and know about their new AD package? It's $13,000 and all programs in your school get the Gold level, unlimited assist, sideline, and their new focus camera.

What schools are yall at? I am up in Sanford, FL and for the longest time we had schools in the county recruit our kids. But after being here for a while and showing them we care they are staying. Only have a couple incidents the past couple years and our AD took evidence to their AD and said if it continued then he would go to the FHSAA. Magically it stopped.

Friday night: stay after the game and watch the film. HC provides the food. Get the laundry done.
Saturday: Family day but we're supposed to watch opponent film on our own. Most of us already started watching the film either Wed or Thurs.
Sunday: Meet at 8 am as a staff. Go over depth and special teams then break up O and D. If you've got to leave for church or some other family thing coach understands and it's not a big deal. The offense is out by 930 and Defense is out by 1030ish (Guess those lazy bums are just not efficient).
Kids watch the film in class on Monday.

We will move inside to our 2nd gym and do walkthroughs. Everything is scripted so we just right down the script. If we're not able to use the gym we'll go to the cafeteria. No cafeteria, then the media center. Our coach has a saying, " We may not beat the New England Patriots in a game but we can definitely beat them in a walkthrough."

we meet all together first and go over depth and special teams then break up into O and D. the HC is also the OC so he stays with us and we go over the game plan. Once we are done ( about 45 minutes to an hour) he goes over to the other room and goes over the game plan with the D, just so he knows what to say to the kids during film during class for the week. While the D coaches are waiting for him to come over they go over the formations they are going to see and start drawing up the scout cards.

I wish they would make All 22 available for college games all in one place. Instead of having to know a guy who knows a guy that's cousins with the GA.

This isn't rocket science. 1st off life isn't fair, so stop trying to make it fair. Its very simple, you break the state into equal regions and then equal conferences based on school size. Winning records get in, losers dont. But because we want things fair and to give everyone a chance...blah...blah..blah, we get this crazy crap. Also where is your integrity as a MAN, if you are the HC of an 0-9 or 1-8 team, then be a man and tell the powers to be "we dont deserve to be in the playoffs we didnt EARN it" and bow out. Isnt part of this whole football coaching thing supposed to be about teaching these kids to be MEN. Interesting that you say this. A 0-9 team in 4A football just made it in over a 4-6 team because of a coin flip.

no practice = no play. If they are unable to practice due to injury or being sick then they aren't going to be fully healthy for the game on Friday.
We've found that it has cut down drastically on absences. Them and their parents don't even argue it anymore.

Go get some of the spray "New skin" and give a light coat on the balls. Ne skin is the stuff they are supposed to spray on the players before they put on the pre wrap.

Gentlemen I know all of you are trying to get ur kids in at a college with a scholarship but for those kids that are not the world beaters and are still looking for a place to play at the next level I might have an opportunity for them. Rollins college, located in winter park (just out side of Orlando,FL), started up a club program after shutting down their football team 62 years ago. While this team is considered a club team the coaching staff (I coach DL and am the DC) treat it as if it is a true NCAA program. Our goal is to become a full fledged program within 3 years with a target date of 2014 to start actual NCAA game play. This year due to scheduling we were only able to have 2 games but already are planning for a full 10 game schedule for next year. We have joined the NCFA and are in the process of joining the south atlantic conference. There are other programs down here in florida that are going to just jump right into NCAA play starting in 2013 (Stetson, FIT) but we feel this is our best shot at starting out right and building the program correctly. We are a full pad, travel program who is looking for kids who may not be the best but know how to play and love this game and are willing to do whatever it takes to continue playing at the next level. If you would like some more information please send me a message on here and I will get back to you as quickly as possible.
Coach Cox

Thank you thank you thank you. I was never able to play a down of even high school football due to vision problems, and I'm afraid that when I eventually start looking for a coaching job that I'll be turned away because I never played the game- implying, of course, that I know nothing of it. It's a wide-spread logical fallacy in the coaching ranks. Some of my friends have seen me reading stuff on coaching football and asked me if I wanted to be a coach. When I said yes, the very next question out of their mouths (in every case) was, "How can you expect to coach it when you never played the game?" Okay, yeah, I haven't played organized football. And yeah, it would be better to play it in addition to learning how to coach it. But I've done my fair share of athletic activities and I generally know what works and what doesn't for almost any sport. I know the principles and ideas and the importance of this and that. Having played baseball for a few years before my vision started really going bad helped me understand social dynamics on a team (looking back my baseball coach was also a great example of how practices should be run). And not to brag, but I'm fairly athletic- more than a good portion of my peers, anyways. So I really hate when people belittle me and say that because I was never involved in organized football I can't possibly coach it. I sort of look up to the few coaches with minimal or no playing experience and made it to college/professional ball, because they give me a shred of hope that I can reach that level someday too. Enders just to give you a glimmer of hope, I never played in high school either due to various reasons. But that didnt stop me. I volunteered at a local high school working with the freshmen (luckily they just had 2 coaches quit and only had 1 left) when I was 22. I then was able to help them with varsity after freshmen season was over, they were understanding when I said I didnt know something. for the next 2 years I worked with the freshmen and was the assistant Oline coach on varsity at a different school. This up coming season I will be an intern for the UFL's Florida Tuskers. Its taken a lot of hard work to learn what I know but im hopeful that im headed in the right direction. So good luck to you.

I just wanted to give this site and you fellow coaches thanks. When I first started as a high school coach 3 years ago I know hardly anything in the way of coaching. I believe it was by pure happenstance that I came across this site and its vast array of knowledge. I know I have not posted much lately (but never stopped reading) but I still want to thank coaches who previously had in depth conversations with me especially OJW. I believe it is because of this knowledge ( and a little luck) that I was able to accept an internship with the UFL's Florida Tuskers a few days ago. Technically I will be working for the director of player personnel but they have also told me that I can assist one of the assistant coaches during practices and games. Again Thank You.

Best I ever had is starting at Ohio ST right now. Mike Brewster started as a true freshmen at Center. Nicest kid off the field, meanest SOB when he puts on a helmet.
