We play for the league title this Friday. Before today's practice, my starting D Tackle says to my line coach "Coach, I don't know if I can practice today. I turned around in Chemistry class and bumped my knee on the drawer." (The fact that he's taking Chemistry in the first place is shocking enough) Last year, the week of Homecoming, I'm talking up the game, the crowd, how all the alumni will be there, etc. My starting ILB: "Coach, what's alumni?" During film, we notice our backup wide tackle is lined up outside the tight end. We tell him he needs to be inside the TE. Him: Who's the Tight End, I couldn't tell." This happens in the 9th game.` Our school test scores were way down last Spring, I think I know why. Just had our HC and my QB asked me the same question! lol Also, during 7 on 7 last week I sent one of my WR to get a ball from the bag. I told him we wanted the left handed football to which he replied "Which one is that they are all Nike!!" True story... You can;t script this.

Mav, we are also building are own endzone camera this season. Let me know any tips or tricks you might have to make the process streamlined. We are in the planning phase right now so any advice is greatly apreciated.

Does anyone have the web address for the PSU online drills library? I attended the Glazier in Baltimore and Dick Anderson gave it out but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I honestly feel you have to always be prepared. You never know when the opportunity will come knocking. I'm a firm believer in being grounded in your faith and one thing i've learned throughout my 32 years of life is that favor isn't fair...

Fellas,
I have a QB who has to have the slowest release EVER! Are there any drills I can incorporate to try and speed it up a little?

Hey Fellas,
We had a meeting last night regarding one of our "star" players threatning to transfer. He was "ALL COUNTY" and his head is even bigger than that. So we are picking kids to participate in a 4 day camp and we only get 23 slots. Our OC is new a long with me and a one of my assistants from last year. Well, the OC wants this kid to go because he is "ALL COUNTY" and going to contribute a lot for the "team"...
The problem is this kid workout attendence is spotty and one week he is in and the next he's transferring. So I suggested the kid not go and we send a kid who deserves it. Now mind you this "ALL COUNTY" kid "STARRED" for a 1-9 team last year. Well to me 4 td's all season doesn't justify greatness, especially when you are allergic to the "team" concept. Well I got accused of being a hard a$$ and taking the wrong approach and since this is my first season of highschool I got the "this is a little different than youth"... So tell me, am I wrong for thinking that way... But the kid just really rubs me the wrong way.
Just last week I ran conditioning and he got upset because he couldn't handle the inensity and and started complaining. So after the workout I told the kids that it wasn't a big deal if they couldn't handle the intensity because football wasn't made for everyone and I went of into how it takes a special person to play this game. I guess its the GA in me trying to manifest in MD!!! LOL!!
Sorry for the rant just really frustrated.

Thanks for that coach! I really need to hear i'm not the only one who is going through some of the things you mentioned. I truly believe in the x's and o's of the game, but the way I see it is there are 11 on o and 11 on d. And at some point it's not about x's and o's it's about winning your indiviual match up. And that comes from how you prepare how you motivate your team how they motivate themselves. I like to call it personal pride!! Although, i'm not a varsity HC yet, i'm a QB coach and I have a pretty huge role on the staff. I am however learning a lot about what to do and what not to do.
Just yesterday I was debating why the 3-5 with one of my coaches. I'm not big on doing something because Tony Franklin or Mike Leach or whoever else said so. So his repsonse was "It is used because WE have a small defense and we want to give ourselves hope against larger teams." Well that wasn't sitting to well with me because ALL the teams we play including us are small. Well before I went ballistic I had to simply find a pc respone although, I was thoroughly unhappy with the answer. So i'm learning it's just really hard sometimes!

Oh ok, just wondering because you have the exact same scores for all the games except 1 or 2 as another team in the league I coach not to mention the first two games the loses were 16-7 and then 2-0. And the team ran a pro offense but then I noticed the switch. I was actually at the 2-0 nothing game and coincedently enough that safety happened the same way too. We also played a team that ran the single wing and it was a beast to stop until halftime we made adjustments to what the other team was doing and won that game 24-20 and it came down to the wire and it was a heart breaker for the other team because they played their hearts out but in the end we just had too much fire power. And this weekend we play their other team (two in same organization) so im curious to see what they are going to do. I don't think they have the size to do what their counter parts did but we will see! I have kids in Va that play, where do you coach?

Both WB's should be on the right stacked behind the TE.

How would you guys defend this? And to answer the origninal question, we ran into a team that did this to us this past weekend. We were able to make adjustments at the half and stopped it pretty good the 2nd half. We are an explosive offense so we went up by two scores and forced them out of it but boy it was a BEAST to stop. What we did was put our DT's in a 3 and 1 DE's head up on the EMOL and both out LB's on a GO. Now the reason I went from a 5 man front to 4-4 look is because I have athletes at the Middle LB and it's hard to block them in space, but what i'm afraid of is that come playoff time teams will run off tackle as opposed to trying to get outside! This was their formation: All they did was motion the WB to what side they were running, QB took snap and jumped in behind both WB's and RB in back field and once they ran the inside counter with the WB. So my question is how can I stay fundamentally sound without giving up too much at the point of attack?

GOOD JOB!! Hang in there, last season 0-10 LOL!! This year same team 6-0. Hardwork + Determination= Success! But the funny thing is my team from last year was my best season ever. Strange, but true I learned how to be a coach last season.

Our MP rule is 11. And most of my MMP kids play WR and FS, I have the same line I had last year which makes a difference. We have 25 kids on the team, but I believe in coaching all that way there isn't too much drop off between 1's and 2's! We have our 1st test this weekend we are playing another undefeated team. And no i'm not Brophy, although he's a pretty smart guy!
