and "Neccessary Roughness"
For TV movies (I never saw "Something for Joey") how about "Rise and Walk: the Dennis Byrd Story" ?
Yeah the "Waterboy" was also good for the highlight hits and some humor.

I will add another vote to Rudy, my favorite movie ever. If you want to go the documentary route "Year of the Bull", "The Last Game" and "1: The De La Salle Story" are all very good.

I know that a TON of people think that Any Given Sunday was a terrible movie... and maybe as far as Academy Awards standards it is, but... I honestly think that it is one of the most accurate portrayals of the "business"-side of football, and all of the turmoil that a team can go through at any level (I know that it was based on the pro-level, but it talks about NCAA problems and attitude problems that are seen at every level as well...) I personally HATE the sappy, corny, movies such as Rudy, Remember the Titans, Gridiron Gang, etc... Just not part of my personality. I honestly have NEVER SEEN: 1) We are Marshall 2) Brian's Song 3) Invincible 4) Friday Night Lights 5) Radio 6) Facing the Giants 7) All of Remember the Titans Top movies that are "football-related" 1) Any Given Sunday 2) The Program 3) Varsity Blues Top comedies that are "football-related" 1) The Replacements 2) Little Giants 3) Necessary Roughness 4) Waterboy 5) Longest Yard

Touchdowng, you are forgetting Hoosiers in the basketball catagory. I would rate it the best sports movie ever.
Football movies, Friday Night Lights is the best High School football movie whether accurate or not is "Friday Night Lights". Close seconds are "Rudy" and "Remember the Titans" are two of the best.
Anyone ever see "Slaughter Rule". Obscure, but good.

The thing I liked about Rudy was that it was one of the first sports movies, period, that seemed to have fairly authentic athletic action, whether in practice or games.

Little Giants is awesome! "Football is 90% physical and 20% mental." great line. also reminds me what it was like to be a kid and football was something you and your buddies did for fun.

Best Sport Movies by catagory? Basketball: they're all bad Hoosiers is one of the best sports movies, hands down! Where is the ice skating category? Ice Castles was such a formative movie for all little blonde haired Iowa girls.

"The Longest Yard 2" - featuring Mike Vick ;D . . . it's not out yet, but I think it might make a good movie.

'The Best of Times' is a good football comedy. Good call, Coachdan. My favorite line(May not be a totally accurate quote) Robin Williams: "You better watch out. I'm pretty fast for a Caucasian." 'Power, Passion, Glory' is a good documentary. It gives you some of the feel of what it's like to coach small-town Texas football, imo. 'Friday Night Lights' tries to capture the feel of what it's like to PLAY small-town Texas football. The inaccuracies are mostly with details inside the program that you'd have to be an insider or, know an insider to point out. And, the movie gives the audience a feeling that Dallas Carter is some school of poor black kids. The school is majority black. But, my friend and his friends were as middle-class as anyone else in America. Also, it's not a football movie in the least but, 'Dazed and Confused' has a background theme of the pressure of playing Texas football. I'm not saying Texas football is any more intense than anywhere else. It's just the only football that I'm familiar with; which probably explains why I like the movies so much.

loved "tghe program"... it was released during camp my freshman year of college football and our whole team went to the movies to see it. also enjoyed "remember the titans" and "friday nite lites". WORST football movie is hands down "facing the giants". i guess if you are REALLY, REALLY into religion and intertwining faith and football... then it would be the movie for you. i just couldnt stand how EVERY SINGLE thing that goes right for the team or its memeber is accredited to "accepting jesus christ as your savior". personally, just a brutal movie to sit through.

The Program is the best movie ever. I used to test out my girlfriends by having them sit and watch that with me, see if they could handle it. I'm not married, by the way.
Friday Night Lights was incredibly disappointing as I had just finished the book (incredibly good) when I heard about the movie... got so excited, it was a huge let-down.
Varsity Blues and Necessary Roughness are also good. Rudy is obvious. Junction Boys is great, can you buy that on DVD? I never thought to look... As for every other movie about football I can think of, I'd rather watch film of my JV team from 2002. Seriously. 1-9, I'd prefer it.

Not a football movie but the Diner when the guy gave his fiance a Baltimore Colts test to see if he would marry her was a classic.

Can't believe you guys are not mentioning the best one "ALL the Right Moves".....for me it's because the action is so much better...Cruise could play a little too.....and Leah whats her name gets naked so thats a plus..I mean Remember the Titans?...an 80 yard reverse with no time left?
I hate to admit but Hoosier's is the best sports movie. JMHO.

Isn't 'All the Right Moves' the one where they call the same play on defense every down? "52 Stack Monster! 52 Stack Monster!" But, I do like the movie.

All the Right Moves is the worst man!
I like the Best of Times- Dr. Death vs. Jack Dundee, Johnny O vs. Reno Hightower, Taft Rockets vs. Bakersfield Tigers - EPIC BATTLES.
Plus some of the best lines, ala Jack - "Better watch out Dr. Death- I'm pretty damnfast for a caucasion..."
I like Rudy for the feel-good story, North Dallas Forty, and The Original Longest Yard.

remember the titans has got to be my favorite....
only problem was when yost was giving his last defensive pep talk in the playoffs....
it all sounded real until he said "you blitz all night!".......to me, that line didn't really fit.....
