Was looking on the local news website this morning at scores from last night, and with each game they often have several photos. I saw one photo with a team’s jack wagon of a coach leading his team through the banner before the game.
Da fuq?! Is this common in any area? It certainly isn’t around here. It may speak volumes that this team is a perennial bottom feeder that almost always gets a mercy clock after halftime.

Don't many college coaches lead their players out (but get passed up after a few strides?)

They don’t want it bad it enough. And they don’t run through the banner hard enough. That is a master coach leading by example.

The reason they lose is because they are not innovative or creative on offense. Winning football games is all about having innovative and creative offensive plays that coaches call at the right time. This overcomes all genetic "defects" in athletes such as weakness, slowness, lack of size etc. , as well as lack of worth ethic, fundamental mastery, and self discipline from the players.

Re-thinking this, I think you are right. But, teams with offensive gurus are so excited to play that they just want it more than the other team and therefore run through the banner better. We have quit filming games and just recorded each teams run through. It is obvious who will win once you start doing this. I just laugh at teams who practice and do “walk thru’s”. Hahahaha. What idiots. We instead spend that time on “run thru’s” with the banner up and everything. Best tip I have picked up in 20 years.

The Chiefs do, and it shows!

Well I just watched the Hoosiers pregame and take the field. Tom Allen must have read some of this and took it seriously. Even the part about getting past after a few steps.
I am not a rah-rah guy but some kids do feed off some of that stuff. I like having a guy on staff to fire the kids up a little bit but I am not ever running out of the tunnel with my hair on fire.

Coaches, people are not robots. We all do it differently. My hc preaches and cusses on field. But its about the next rep I do my teaching in pre practice. But i wont say one word that i dont have to say in practice. I dont get off on the rah rah. We have coaches though who eat that stuff up. We all do it differently.

Without seeing the clip, I would be willing to wager that 1) the coach was wearing a visor Or 2) the coach posts videos of himself lifting weights with kids on Twitter.

Eh.. like I said... other guys do it. Now, when you lead your team out and have to pass up a giant mural of yourself..... Even better when you leave the team 10 yards behind

No visor. But the look on his face said he sure was having fun reliving his glory days. If you zoom the picture way into the stands and can read lips, you can see a fan calling the guy a tool bag.

I once saw player leading team through the circular hoop-type banner trip and break his leg, done for the season.
Not even Jim Harbaugh leads Michigan through "M GO BLUE" banner that players jump to touch.
Of course after today he might not be allowed to anyway.

I never ran through the banner as a player. Peeled off the line, avoided the cheerleader tunnel and headed for the sideline. I got better things to waste my energy on.

I love those videos that show a youth football team running through a banner but the lead guys don't have enough a$$ to break the Velcro and the whole team gets jammed up behind it like it's rush hour on the Dan Ryan.

We'd never run through the banner with the kids. I, personally, film their run through and use it as criteria for starters and for scheme the next week. If the line gives more effort, we go with the Wishbone. If the skill players do, we go with the Air Raid..

My HC calls the guy who runs our team twitter account the "minister of propaganda" and I love it. When he retires I am leaving it was going to be to boise but nobody answered my thread on that one so I guess not

It's about having a strong culture and excellent Tweet game. If running through the banner is part of their core values and drives an elite culture then he is helping develop young men who will be great husbands and fathers.

Surely there are coaches on here that run through the banner...Guys stand up for yourselves...there might be a good reason to do it!
I have never been tempted because I have always been on the pressbox. There have been times I have been tempted to jump off of there though.
