Was at a Family BBQ in another state last week when the usual small talk about the kids came up...
Apparently their Township in NJ splits up school as such:
Elementary School K-5
Middle School 6-8
Junior High School 9-10
Senior High School 11-12
... I never heard of this kind of set up so I asked the question of "how in the !@#% do the sports teams work?" Their kid wasn't an athlete so they didn't have the answer.
Out of curiosity are any of you familiar with this structure?
Is the Junior Highs a feeder for a common Senior? Or can Senior High's just poach who ever?
Either way it sounds like a tough place to coach since you only have 2 years with the kids in order to get them to buy 1 off seasons to get them to lift.

Where I'm from (and studying education) we divid our schools up like this:
Elementary School can relate to a building housing K-8 OR Primary School can relate to a building housing K-5
Middle School can relate to a building housing 6-8
Junior High can relate to a building housing 7-12 OR High School can relate to a building housing 9-12

In NJ theres all kinds of wacky splits and everyone does it differently.
The tin foil hat man in me thinks it mostly because people just want to create and keep admin positions.

For Football they are bused over the the place with the football field. So after school, all the athletes get on the school bus and go over to the other school.

"...people just want to create and keep admin positions." Agree!!!
Some big high schools have grades 9-10 in one building and grades 11-12 in another-but both on the same campus. All football teams dress/practice at same site.

Don't know where this was in New Jersey ... our district, and most around us, are pretty straightforward: K-8 and 9-12.

When I was in school (beginning in 1954):
Elementary school K-6.
Junior High School grades 7 through 9.
High School grades 10 through 12.
All of them were in the same cities and fed up to each other.
Tackle football began in Jr. H.S. So did Baseball, and Basketball. Wrestling and Track & Field was introduced in H.S.
Nobody even heard of Soccer...other than it was a silly game invented by European girls so they could have something to giggle at while their boyfriends held their purse.

Cedar Falls in Iowa does this. Peet and Holmes are their Junior high schools. They do this partly for historical/facilities reasons.
