Would anyone be willing to share their routine on game days. I'm looking for a timeline basically from the time school gets out until kickoff (home/away). I think this is an area we need to get better at. I'm just looking for ideas. I feel like we have given kids too much of their own time.

I am interested to hear why you think you are giving them too much time on their own. I have been a part of programs that literally had the kids doing stuff with the team from the moment the school day ended and felt it was a waste and a good example of Helicopter Coaching.
Now I am not claiming this is the OP, just wondering what specific is causing you to feel this way?

We go the other direction on this - most of the kids live pretty close to school so we let them go home at 2:30 and don't require them to be back until walk through, I think 4:15 for away games and 5:15 for home games maybe?
Then get on the bus for away games, on their own/locker room for away.
6:00 specialists on field 6:20 non-specialists out - team dynamic stretch 6:25 individual defense 6:30 individual offense 6:35 offensive focused team 6:40 locker room 6:50 pre-game talk from HC 6:55 back on field for national anthem 7:00 win the game

Home games we tell kids to be there by 5:30. Hit field for warm ups about 6:20 or so. I have enough going on game day to worry about babysitting kids for 4-5 hours before kick off.
Road games all depends on how far we are going try and plan to be there by 5:30 or so.

I've mentioned it before but we arrive at school 1 hour before kick off and we go out 10-15 minutes before kick off and run a few plays. I don't have enough kids to do any extensive warmup, not that I ever would.

I did it both ways - kept them at school (team meal, film, meetings), or had them back half hour before Pre-Game or bus left like wingtol .
Don't know that one is better than the other. The reason a lot of coaches give for keeping them is that way they know where they are and they can't get into trouble.
The biggest advantage of having them stay is you can control when-what they eat.
My college coach said you have to get to the game early so you can worry.

We let them go home if time permits. They have to be back at 5:15 for home games. Usually if away they have time to run to Subway and then come back.

We never allow our kids to go home on game days. Too many opportunities for things to happen to them if they get off campus or are not supervised on game day. We try to control as much as we can on game days. Here is our schedule for game day 2:45 PM - Dismissal & Team Meal prepared by culinary arts 3:30 PM - Pick up uniforms 4:00 PM - On field, easy stretch with position group. QB;s warm up arms & work some drops 4:15 PM - Offense Walk Through, Review opening script & situations/Defense Set Recognition & Review Tendencies 4:25 PM - Special Teams Call Outs 4:30 PM - Taping Begins 5:00 PM - Coaches Meeting 5:15 PM - Position Meetings 5:25 PM - Offense/Defense Meetings 5:35 PM - Finish Getting Dressed/Music Off in Locker Room 6:00 PM - Kickers, Long Snappers, Holders, Return Men 6:10 PM - QB's/WR's 6:15 PM - Centers/RB's/DB's 6:20 PM - Team On Field/Quick Stretch 6:25 PM - Indo 6:30 PM - 7 on 7/OL-DL 6:35 PM - Team O 6:40 PM - Team D 6:45 PM - Off Field 7:00 PM - GATA

If you have to worry about what your kids are going to do after school gets out and it's time for them to come back to get ready for the game,
And-or have what amounts to a practice before the game -
You might not have done a good enough job coaching before game day.
And also be wary of wearing them out, physically or emotionally, before Kick off.
Not to mention the coaches.

In all the years that I've been involved in the game we've always allowed kids to go home. I don't recall a serious issue other than maybe coming late. From time to time a kid has had a problem with a ride so we'd send somebody to get him.

Coach was asking what people did on game day so I included our routine. I am not familiar with many schools in our area that release their kids after school on game day. This schedule works well for us.

We get out at 230. Take attendance at 315 and eat. They have 30 mins to take care of business and kiss their girlfriends.
They hang out until until game time. Pretty laid back with a couple position group meetings.
Some of my kids take the bus so would have trouble returning on time.
I like knowing my kids aren't out vaping or messing with their girlfriends.
We send specials out at 6pm. Play at 7pm.

Watch Key and Peele skits on YouTube.....forget the time....realize the locker room got quiet and I’m the only coach in the office......go to the field and putter around aimlessly......go back inside and finish last skit.......climb on top of the box and try to decide the celebrity doppelgänger for the umpire.....

Our kids get out of school for home games at 1:45 We have our pregame meal at 2:30. No one leaves. Pregame meal: 230 Devotional 3:00 until 3:15 Rest areas 3:15 until 4:15 4:15 dress and tape 4:50 Off and Def Meetings 5:05 Special Teams Roll Call 5:15 Depart for Stadium 5:30Arrive at Stadium 6:00 First Group Out 6:10 QB's and Skill Out 6:20 Big Skill Out 6:30 Others Out 6:30 Stretch 6:40 Indy 6:48 1-on-1's OL/DL 6:53 Team Off vs. Team D 6:58 Punt/ZP 7:03 Back Inside 7:25 Team Entrance 7:30 Kickoff WIN
This is our typical schedule. Last year we had 5 TV games and had to make some adjustments. We had to be back on the field a little sooner, so we went in the locker room 5 minutes earlier.

I appreciate all the responses. This is helpful. The reason I am considering cutting their time down on when they are "free" is because I feel like collectively we are too often a little too casual about things. Just trying to find the right mix of routine and regiment to build confidence, while not being too rigid and being uptight. Again, thanks to all who shared.
