Recently got out of my own backyard and realized that all youth programs are not the same and definitely not equal.

You may have to widen your menu some more.
I first coached (in 2007) in a club that had 6 teams, each in a different class. 3 of them were weight-limited AYF teams: 8U (Mighty Mite), 10U (Jr. PeeWee), and 12U (PeeWee). 1 was an unlimited 12U AYF class. The remaining 2 were in the Empire State Eagles(?) classes: 14U and 18U.
In 2008 I coached briefly for an adult club that also had a teenage team and was trying to start children's teams. They eventually played that year as independent 13Us.
Then I joined a "house ball" club that had 7U flag teams and 3 tackle divisions whose upper age limit was somewhat variable from yr. to yr. However, by the time I left in 2016 the number of tackle divisions had been reduced to 2, each with an uncomfortably broad age range, in order to make up enough teams (4-5 per division) to have competition with declining enrollment. Meanwhile, though, they began a travel team of 13Us that they could graduate to.
The above were all in the Bronx. NYC interscholastic football has for many yrs. had weak programs; some HS have no teams at all, those that do may not have JV, let alone frosh. The difference tends to be made up by clubs, which is why "youth" in New York may mean the same as it does in other countries, lasting thru the teen years. I know of one youth team that stayed together and eventually became an adult entry in the MidEast Football Cf., & then the Garden St. Football League.
Now I'm in NJ with a club that's struggled to hold the line, as enrollment in the area's declined, competing w single-year teams in the MCYFL, which has a separate conference for 2-yr. classes. Besides flag teams for 7Us, we have 1 entry apiece of wt.-limited 8U (Pre-Clinic), 9U (Clinic), 10U (Super PeeWee), 11U (PeeWee), 12U (JV), & 13U (Varsity) teams. I believe the local Jr. HS has a team too. We share the name of the local HS teams: Newton Braves.

In Cleveland we don't have middle School football everything is practically ages 6 to 14 to can't be in the 9th grade if your 14. Ages 6 and 7 is our "termite" division. Ages 8 and 9 is our "midget" division. Ages 10 and 11 is our "pee wee" division And our 12 to 14 year olds (not in high school) are in the "bantam" division. No weight limits either which is why I'm on board with them.
