We dont allow it or condone it, but we dont run big campaigns against it. Here's how a parent meeting might go: coach: "i'm really concerned about Timmy's marijuana..." parent, reaching into pocket: "why, did he not give you the good stuff?!?" Some families use it to keep the lights on. Anything we say is just piss on a forest fire, we just pray they never get busted and mourn when they hit the public recently-arrested page in the newspaper. Just keeping it honest....... We have a player who can't keep himself out of trouble due to exactly what you mentioned. Should have probably been expelled by now, but keeps getting slaps on the wrist. He says he sells it to help his parents out with $$$, etc...and that he makes more $$ selling than he would at a normal "teenager" type job. AP checked it out and turns it he was telling the truth. Nice kid, does what we ask, could be a decent player, but can't quit getting in trouble b/c of it. Hell of a scout player though! If the school and police dont do anything, and the parents are at the very least encouraging it, what is the coach supposed to do? It's one of the reasons we work so hard to get our kids out of the city and off to college somewhere. For some, it is the only chance they have.

the % of our faculty using marijuana is probably higher than our student population I did my drug test with my the kids this season. Had tried at previous stops but admin freaked and wouldn't let me. The kids thought it was great. I think in any situation the athletes are getting tested the coaching staff should be right there with them.
