McVay came out and stated that he was "out-coached" which I believe is true. To me, it appeared as if he had a Plan A and that was to do the same things they've done all year; establish the run and let that set the passing scheme. He didn't have a Plan B which would have accounted for their running game costing them yardage. An OC can establish a decent passing game if the running attack is somewhat of a threat but they were cutting their own throats the majority of the time they tried to run the ball last night.
That IMO, was a giant oversight on McVay's part. He should have figured that Belichick was going to force Goff's hand and throw the ball more and game planned accordingly.

It felt like SB 25, when the Giants just let the air out of the ball, except both teams did so. I think in hindsight the Rams should have tried to speed things up a bit and rolled the dice.
I get reamed a lot for not agreeing with the argument that Brady must be the best ever because he has more rings. Hopefully his performance last night and his team's win further proves that Football is a team game, and Quarterbacks (like presidents) get too much blame/credit for the final outcome (unless you want to tell me it was his hard work and motivation that held the Rams to 3 points).
I was shocked that a quality OL line the Rams struggled to pick up so many stunts that are of the ilk that we face/run on our level (lots of Twists, Toms, Bobs, & Isos). Although having grown up in So Cal as a big Rams fan I may be biased.

You can STILL win with DEFENSE!!! The Patriots do a masterful job of playing basically MAN coverage (& getting enough pressure). NOTE: Belichick teaches SEVEN PAGES of DETAILED "man/technique" (step-by-step) alone.
Are you saying other NFL teams don't play MAN coverage and try to get pressure,
and don't have "SEVEN PAGES of DETAILED 'man/technique' (step-by-step) alone"?
Find that hard to believe.
If you watch the game again you will see they played a lot quaters and cover 6 (rip/liz match) more than they did man... It was obvious they wanted to be aggressive at POA up front and zone with the secondary to prevent all the playaction and boot passes the rams run, m2m would've killed the pats...

I didn't say that, our resident expert did.
Haha that wasn't directed toward you.

The pats ran pretty much the same plan the lions did earlier in the season... (Just for a reference)

A little trivia - Lions are 4-0 in regular season against eventual SB winners (including Pats this season).
But of course have not come close to sniffing SB themselves.
Just goes to show you the homogeneity of talent at that level. On any given Sunday the best team could lose to one of the worst. Completely different ball game at the HS level, where often the best team in the area can beat the worst by 20+ 20 times in a row.

First statement true (got Al Pacino a movie role as a Pro coach).
Second sounds like bad scheduling.
Let me explain that 2nd statement, I meant ANY TEAM in our area. There are multiple schools within an hour drive of me right now who are consistently in the top 100 nationally (including national champs). We are a small private school who have less than 300 students all told. We don't ever play them, but there level of talent (Best HS team) far exceeds that of many around here.

Very "Old School" kinda game.
Bend, don't break defense.
Decided lack and inability to make big plays.
Field position and kicking game..........opportunistic offense. (we rode that horse to several State Championships).
"Interesting" game as a coach, but I'm sure it was a terrible game for the average spectator.

On the Rams first third-down play, Claiborne burst inside on a stunt, rushed Goff into a throw and smashed him into the turf. (Clayborn admitted that he had actually made a communication mistake with a linebacker on the play and would receive a film study demerit from Belichick).
Film study demerit? I have never heard of such a thing. Sure is a way to make professional athletes accountable!

Understood, coach. Didn't mean to denigrate what you were saying.
Just sounded like you were speaking from experience or observation of actual competition.
No worries, didn't take it that way either

How about the fullback Develin for the Patriots? How many teams next year go and try to find a fullback?

the reason I said no is because they saw gronk do the same things devlin does. And they will, imo wrongly, get infatuated with that. But Coach, Devlin isn't a freak. He is just a fb/blocker. You can find guys similar. Gronk? A freak!!! Is there anyone else EVER like him? And if there are, an NFL team would be idiotic to not get a Gronk.

Guys like Develin, while becoming less frequent, are much easier to find.
