I was going to add this to the D-bag coaches thread but then I remembered the ever present possibility that it might be me that is the D-bag after all, and that D-bag behavior is really just anything outside the norm, so if it turns out that more people are doing this than not, I'm probably the d-bag anyway
I'm noticing that more and more staffs are coming out in pregame warm ups wearing shorts and t-shirts, then changing into game day gear while after the kids go back in before the big run out
what up with that?
I've even seen a couple of guys wearing earphones during the entire warm up process
a sign of less professionalism in the job or just coaches being smart and maximizing comfort as long as possible?
I"m undecided

I'll be honest, I am one of the coaches you speak of; I usually come out for warm-ups in a team t-shirt and shorts and then change into the game day attire when we go back into the locker room.
For me, I do it mainly for comfort and somewhat practicality. I am in charge of all Specials, so I am usually out long before everyone else, setting up the field and then moving around to check on the different specials. Then I have an offensive and a defensive Indy warm-up as well. I often work up a little sweat during all of this and I mainly want to start the game in dry clothes and I want them to look crisp and clean and not chance getting them dirty before the game.

I too am undecided. I am all for comfort. Some of our coaches go to away games dressed. As for me home or away doesn’t matter. When the first group of specialists/pretty boys etc.... go out before everyone else then I go and change out of my Russell dri fit shorts and t shirt and into my game gear. I can see why someone would do this. Especially if it were hot. But I believe once you step on the field you are representing your school and should be in game attire.

I've never seen anyone do this. Every coach I see is already wearing their game day attire.

I’m actually the reverse. I get dressed like the rest of the staff for warmups (polo, khakis, etc) then I go up to the booth which is a classroom in the school that overlooks the field. So then I will sometimes get chanced into something more comfortable

I dress for game when we go in. Before that it’s all comfort

I've done both!
I get dressed now, but as the HC, I came out the locker room late.
B4 I use to get dressed after we went back in and wore headphones, talked to me kids 1 by 1.
Took them off to have a conversation with the other HC and went about my business.
This past year, I stayed in the locker room later ie, my skill guys were probably out about 20 minutes b4 I came out. I spoke with all my kids in the locker room and came out dressed.
I don't think this made me a d-bag...

I started wearing shorts and T-shirt during warm ups this year. I stuck with it throughout the season simply because we won the first game and I am superstitious. I am apart of the first wave that arrives at the game and gets the sideline/cameras set up. We were rushed for the first game and it was hot so I waited to change until after warm up. That is how treated the rest of the season as well. I did check with the head coach before hand to make sure it was okay by him to stay this way.

A lot of times our JV plays before our varsity. The jv games start at 4:00 when it's hotter than heck. I wear shorts and last year's polo through the jv game and through varsity warmups, then change just before the varsity game. It's a comfort thing - I don't want to spend the varsity game in sweat soaked clothes, I want something semi-fresh.

I come out in t-shirt and shorts in pre-game but mainly cause it’s Hot AF in Louisiana and I’m drenched after pre-game.

I always used to wear khaki shorts and a tshirt to pregame stuff and then put my polo on over the tshirt. After 4 years on the job, I just stop putting on the polo. I don't think I've worn a polo to a football game since 2014.

I get dressed before we go out for warmups. But I've got a great pair of Under Armour khakis that are really comfortable, and I only wear hot jackets/hoodies with just a t-shirt under so I'm never really that uncomfortable to start. My first year as a coach the whole staff had to wear polos on the sideline, and it was awful. I hated being all tucked in and restricted... I don't know how anyone does it

All of the coaches on our staff wear the t-shirt of the week and matching shorts for warmups and the game. We are all about being as comfortable as possible in the Florida heat.

Shared this a while back and will again.
PERSONALLY, I have no issue with a guy wearing a t-shirt & shorts. usually do it myself.
The truth behind it is I was going into my 3rd year at current school and had struggled 1st 2 seasons. I thought, if we struggle this year might be on the hot seat. So I said, screw this. If I'm going down I'm gonna at least be comfy and do things the way I really want to.
We won the division that year and I have never looked back. Right, wrong or otherwise, I think the community cares more about the outcome of the game than they do about my polo v. t-shirt.
JMO
PS - Blue collar community, I blend well.

All of the coaches and players on the team get a new t-shirt each week of the season. They all usually have a different saying or motto that pertains to that week. Players get cotton ones to wear during warm ups, coaches get dri fit to wear during warm ups and the game. Needless to say after a few years their my closet is getting full. Lol

I coached at a small private Christian school where every coach except the HC and the OC was a volunteer and the only thing we were given was a gameday polo. We'd all wear our own stuff to practices & pregame - so it ran the gamut from very professional to very unprofessional. At one particular practice the O-line coach was wearing a Raiders tank top with jorts, a Corona Extra cap and flippies, while the QB coach was in a UA shirt with khaki shorts & turf cleats - everybody else was somewhere in between. After practice a parent approached the HC and said, "Some of your coaches don't dress very professionally. Why?" The HC said, "They're all volunteers and the school doesn't provide anything for them. I can't ask them to give up 500 hours of their time and then complain about how they dress." The guy said, "Oh, okay". He went to his car and came back with a check for $2,000. He said, "Here, got get your coaches whatever they need. If this doesn't cover it let me know." Great family to have in the program.

We wear black pants with our gameday polo during the game. In South Texas it is very HOT early in the season, and I sweat a lot. So now for pre-game I've started wearing a pair of black, unlined wind pants and a t-shirt just so I'm not a sweaty mess for four hours. It's probably a little bush league, but if that's our biggest problem, then I guess we're ok.

It all depends on what they required attire is for the game. Some HCs ask that we were dress khakis and our polos: I hate dress khakis. As such, I'll wear shorts and my coaching polo during pre-game and then put on the dress khakis. If the required attire is a khaki of any kind, then I wear my lighter, cargo khakis all day long. Plus, dress khakis aren't cheap and I prefer to limit the wear and tear on them if possible.

I just went with a team tee shirt this year instead of the coaching polo.
We went 9-1 so it didn’t seem to hurt anything.

I wear what I am wearing for the game in pre-game. Black golf type pants and our black coaches polo. I'm not changing out of my school stuff into shorts/t then into coaching gear before a game. One change and I'm done. I just stand there and watch the warm ups basically so it's not like I'm going crazy with physical activity in pre-game.
