Just as the title says, I'm trying to savor every minute of this season, because something special like this only comes once in a life time for many of us. It makes it extra special for me because I grew up here, I live here, I played here. I've wanted nothing more than to be a part of bringing a state championship home for the first time here since 2001. This post can definitely come off as a brag post, but this team deserves the recognition plus this section is for stories like this.
Tonight we are home and play our last regular season game. Just by coincidence we play the 2nd place team that is 6-1. Winner takes the reg. season div. championship and the #1 seed from our side of the conference. I would say being 7-0 and playing for a division title is special in itself, but the dominance of this team is almost unprecedented. It's not like we play in a low classification either. Our scores have been 45-0, 53-20, 62-12, 40-0, 54-0, 61-0, 57-0. Our starters have not played a 4th quarter yet. We haven't trailed at all this season. We have a complete team, O, D, & SPT. I'm the OC so I'm going to be a little bias here in talking about our O.
We run the Single Wing averaging 434 yards rushing a game. We've only attempted 20 passes all season. As a team we average 10.3 yards a carry. Yes, you read that right. I'm not going to lie, I love being the OC of this team, running a unique old school offense that no one really understands and taking it to all the spread teams we play. I swear no one can stop a power run game anymore because all they see is the spread in practice, but that's a different conversation. Everywhere I go someone will start talking to me about the team and season and I love it. I love the passion our town has for football. It's always interesting trying to explain to my friends who only know football from tv that we don't play with a quarterback. The looks they give me. I'll keep this thread up to date with how everything turns out for us.
Feel free to chime in with stories from your best seasons.

We won a district title this year (second time in school history) by switching to the Single Wing. We had a game where we rushed for 667 yards! We also averaged over 10 yards a carry! Even in our playoff loss to the two-time defending state champs we rushed for 300 yards (we just couldn't get enough stops on defense). How did your season finish or are you still playing?

Wanted to give everyone an update. We fell short of a state championship, but this season was definitely the most exciting one of my career. We won a division title, but lost in the state semi-finals 22-21 to the eventual state champs. We finished out our season beating our Thanksgiving Day rival 61-0.

Nice. Never had a season like that. Congrats coach. I've been a part of good seasons though. Savor every minute. Nothing like Friday during the day knowing you've got a strong chance once the lights turn on. It's very relaxing in a way.
I've been a part of three teams that won 10 games. One as a player, two as an assistant coach. They all had a unique grind to them different from other seasons but my generalized takeaway is that Fridays are relaxing

Congrats on your season coach!
Your year sounded a lot like ours. We knew coming into the season that we were probably going to be really good, and sure enough we were. We also fell short of the state championship, but could have easily won it (sometimes you need a break or two when you get deep in the playoffs).
We led the state in scoring in our classification, from wire to wire. Unlike you guys we tossed the ball around a pretty good bit. Our QB was an Alabama 3A Back of the Year finalist, threw for over 3K yards. We had 5 all-state players, a team record. We didn't have a region game closer than 30 points. We won out first region championship in school history. We had our first ever undefeated regular season.
All in all it was an amazing year that seemed like it just flew by. I've never been a part of one quite like it. Such a special group of guys! I've been a part of this program for 14 years, from the very first season of football, so to have that perspective on the progression from 1-9 seasons to being one of the top teams in the state has been a very special journey.

My second season coaching was special and I didn't realize just how special at the time because I thought life was always going to be that easy...
Congrats on a great season coach!
As far as this season I was with a new college club and drew up half of our defensive scheme. We won our Conference and had the #5 defense in the country. All in all it was a great year.

I know this is way late, but you can you kinda explain the whole Thanksgiving Day game tradition up north? I had never really heard of the high school Thanksgiving Day game tradition until we had a guy move down here to TX from PA to work for us. It seemed really cool.

I had never really heard of the high school Thanksgiving Day game tradition until we had a guy move down here to TX from PA to work for us. It seemed really cool. I played HS football and coach in New Jersey where we still have some Thanksgiving Day games left, but as traditional conferences have been replaced by super conferences, and with the state adding another layer of playoffs this past season (we don't have "state championships", instead as of last year we are one round short of it), Thanksgiving Day games are becoming more scarce. For the schools that still do play them, it's usually the biggest home attendance game of the year. The school that I will be coaching at in the fall plays on Thanksgiving against a team that it first began playing in 1917 and have played every year since except for 1990-1995. There are a couple of these games in South Jersey that are older, like Millville/Vineland which began in 1893, Salem/Woodstown which began in 1911, and Palmyra/Burlington City began in 1908.

Being from Mass, my HS played in one of the 5 oldest rivalries in the state. Believe the teams started playing each other in 1880 somethin, and have played every year since on Thanksgiving Day. One of those games that no matter how either teams season is going, its gonna be a toss-up* based on adrenaline and history alone. *always a few lop-sided wins every now and then.
