Reading through a playbook and it specifies between an Open side and a Closed side run. I was under the impression that an open side run is to any side without an attached TE and a closed side run would be to the TE side. Am i right?
any insight appreciated.

I would assume that but it would be hard to confirm without context clues.

Some coaches refer to the wide side of the field as the "Open" side, the sideline side as the "Closed" (as opposed to 'Field' and 'Boundary' for ex.)

Closed side is the running strength, open side is away from that.
This differs from strong (passing strength), and weak (away from passing strength)

In my defense we have a run strength and a pass strength. If you have a TE, that is the run strength. If you run that way, we say run strong, opposite you ran weak. Open/closed are terms for where the emol is. If he is attached with nobody outside him, it is closed. If he is detached or someone outside, it is open...
That's our terminology. Some guys use same term for multiple things which can get confusing.
A common one is the use of the word contain... in my defense it is a pass only term for the widest rusher to each side. Many use it in run game and pass game so there are 2 different "contains" on each play.

Nobody has 'contain' on the run- we have a force defender, but contain is for pass.
