How do those of you that are non teacher coaches schedule practice? How have you increased participation without being in the building?

Non-teacher OL coach here. I'm fortunate to have a job that allows me to flex time by going in early, skipping lunch, etc. I take vacation 1/2 days to make it during pre-season camp. During season I really only have 2 days that impact work as one day is a lift day and I don't come in to practice until that's done. I don't go to practice most days before game practices because its mostly walk through.
Not being in the building can be a challenge. We have open gyms during the off season in the school year Friday mornings. I try to make it to 2-3 per month to show my face and observe. Other thing I have done is create text a group with all the OL kids. I text out videos, tweets, articles, etc. that I find and think they might have interest. There's a ton of OL/Football/Motivational stuff out on twitter that makes for good content. I'll also text a kid if I see him doing well in his other activities in school. I follow all of the various twitter feeds the high school has so there's not much I'm not aware of. Lastly, we put goals together for achieving "wing nights", which end up being 2-3 times a season. A couple of coaches and the whole o-line go out to a local establishment that has 30 cent wings on Wed nights. Kids love it and I get to interact with them outside the typical setting.
