I’m sorry. That’s awful, but happens all the time, unfortunately. I know a woman whose 4 year old son died in a 4 wheeler accident and I personally saw someone killed in a 4 wheeler wreck when they ran out in front of a truck on the interstate. There’s no way in hell I’ll ever let my kids near one. But up there... football was considered far more dangerous by a lot of parents because of CTE and injuries and the moderately successful basketball coach constantly telling kids and parents how dangerous football was. This was the same place where a kid’s mom stood up in church on Sunday and praised Jesus for ending her son’s football career due to multiple concussions. the lies and deception that currently is, is just outrageous!!! The death of us all is found in diversity, equality, and safety.
Is there a "WTH" emoji we can use to reply to @grad17's nonsensical, impossible to decipher posts to save time?

It would just be awesome if there wasn't some tin foil hat conservative conspiracy with every issue.

I've shared this one before but at my first coaching job--15 years ago by now--I was in the hall during passing time when a kid came up and told me he wouldn't be at practice that day. I simply said, "Oh, okay..." The reason my response was so unenthusiastic was because the kid hadn't been at a practice in two weeks, at least. I still to this day don't know what motivated him to seek me out that particular day and say he wouldn't be there!

Many years ago, a buddy was coaching an 8th grade basketball team. One of the kids on the team, a real dip$hit who enjoyed his 3 years of middle school so much that he spent an extra 2 years there, wrote an email to the coach that went something like this:
"Dear Coach ______,
I regret to inform you that I will be resigning my position on the _____ Middle School 8th Grade Basketball Team effective immediately. This decision was not made easily but it was a long time coming. Thank you for your time and good luck on the rest of the season.
Sincerely,
15-Year-Old 8th Grader"
Was one of the most bizarre things I have ever read.

Surprised by what exactly? not you specifically, the tone of your response. It does not surprise me, as it has become predictable. If it is predictable, why continue to post those things if you don't want to see the response that you know is coming?

Do you really feel you're causing anyone to evaluate their personal beliefs? I have had people privately tell so. Do you really believe you are open to others way of thinking? And if you actually believe that you cannot positively persuade people, why do you coach or teach? 1. I would wager if you gave us a political spectrum test, I would actually be right of you. 2. Idk. I've been asking myself that a lot lately. I don't think I will be by this time next year on either. 3. I also definitely know that your methods have little to zero effectiveness.

The death of us all is found in diversity, equality, and safety. This is a serious and legitimate question: Do you work at a public school? If so, do they have any idea what you're posting on here? If so, how do you still have a job? (I would hope that it would be difficult to keep one at a private school as well, but I guess I could see one of those segregation academies that would think it was ok)

Had a great one last week. It was our homecoming week and there were volleyball games starting at 4pm that Thursday.
A freshman waltzes into the coaches' office:
"What time are we going to be done with practice tonight?" "It's a normal Thursday night." "What about the homecoming volleyball games?" "It's a normal Thursday night. We'll be done in time for the varsity game. Go get dressed." "I don't feel well. I think I'm going home." "If we see you at the volleyball game, you won't be playing this weekend." "This is crap! It's homecoming! What about school spirit!? I quit!" "Okay."
Haven't seen him since.

That would be irresponsible.
Perhaps, but from replies you're getting here doesn't seem you're making much of a difference.
Maybe focusing on your current teaching-coaching job might be more "responsible."

do you tell your player to keep quiet when they see a wrong? Guess is you don't. You dare!
I have no idea what you mean by that reply - like most of your messages.

seem to understand enough to comment, suggest I be quiet and go away. Like anybody else who rubs you the wrong way.
You don't have to go away.
Anybody has right to post on coachhuey.com within bounds of AUP, whether I agree with you or not.
Problem is I just can't tell what it is you're trying to say most of the time - and I taught English for 19 years.

Actually larrymoe asked for clarification.
And only reason I didn't is I no longer care.
Your replies contributed nothing to the topic of this thread - like most of yours.

need to ask yourself that. Read where I made my comment. Non contributing post started with you.

The past two weeks have been good for weird/lame excuses for quitting. Last night was laughable.
We have a kid that's missed two practices as he stated he had driving sessions for driver's ed. However, we looked into it and there's no driving sessions during football practice.
HC: "You told us you were going to miss practice to drive but Mr. Driver's Ed Instructor told us that there's no driving sessions offered at those times. You lied to us, care to explain yourself?" Kid: "I do have driving sessions but I don't drive with Mr. Driver's Ed Instructor." HC: "Then it's not actually driver's ed. Those are unexcused practices and you're not playing the next two games." Kid: "I drive with my cousin during those times because I need extra practice at it!" HC: "That's no only a poor excuse, it's illegal. Go get dressed for practice." Kid: "It's not an excuse and it's not illegal, he's 16 and has a driver's license!" HC: "I'm not going to argue with you. Go. Dress. Out." Kid: "No, this isn't fair! How am I supposed to get to a job and feed my family if I don't know how to drive!" HC: "Get out of the office. We'll discuss this with your parents and Mr. AD." Kid: "I'm done. You're not going to keep me from being a grown a$$ man."

Not over quitting, but the knife and jail thing brought this up. Just this past week in a junior high game, a stud D-lineman was wearing us out. Coach tells the Center to cut him. Center looks at coach serious as a heart attack and says, "But Coach, I don't have a knife." Might be a clue we should work on cutting a bit more. The thing I love most about this exchange is that the kid didn't express any moral objection to cutting the other player with a knife, but instead just stated that he didn't have the necessary tool lol. I know! Half of me thinks there is some promise I am going to have a mean lineman. The other half of me is a bit concerned, lol.
