Hey all, I have a weird athlete on my team this year. Weird in that he is going to probably be my starting TE, but also a backup QB (and really probably could win the job if we didn't have another REALLY legit QB on the roster).
For you guys who have had players crosstrain on the same side of the ball, how would you split their time up for O indy?

He goes with TE on indy. Make sure he gets reps at qb with 2nd team/group.
Any qb indy stuff will have to be pre-practice/post-practice/on his own.

Not to geek out, but I enjoy having to handle these types of issue on my team. If someone is a coordinator, then it should be their job to coordinate (practice schedules, not just games). I usually try to organize the drills during indy times that they can get one day (or part of one day) where those players who double dip can work with the most important skills with their secondary position without missing too much with their primary.
My advice: organize and plan everything out (yes, specific drills at specific times) so you can get this done.

You need to have a “contingency period” on the practice plan. We do ours on Wednesdays.

He works with QBs constantly especially from a scheme standpoint. QB is a much tougher position than TE. In team, have him work 1st team TE and 2nd team QB. JMO

It just depends on the personnel. The kid is the starting TE. Tough for the starter to miss reps at his position group. But if he knows how to play it already and has some experience, then younare correct.

I would have him at least once a week go with OL just to get used to the tempo of the OL, and to help with his timing with the tackles.

He threw with us pretty much all summer. He also got plenty of reps at receiver and TE so he knows our routes. I am going to have him go exclusively with OL tonight, and then go from there. I also have another viable QB to be QB 2, so may not even need this kid throwing. I just like his frame a little bit better (taller and thicker).

To me he does pre practice and maybe post practice QB drills.
Practice with TE;s
get reps with the offense to learn base plays...
