Good friend of mine interned under Meyer at Florida, has not 1 nice thing to say about it I've got a buddy who coached D2/D3 ball in Ohio and said when Tressel was there, it was an open invitation for anyone to come by at anytime. He said there would be 100 small college coaches working the camps, and Tressel got to know them (which I'm not saying is a mandate by any means) and they'd get free beer and food every day. Urban got there and basically locked the doors, and at camps would be on the field for 15 minutes to eval the guys they wanted, and then would go back to his office until the post camp talk. Wouldn't talk to anyone.. He also told me about a GA they had who had an interview at OSU for a GA gig.. Meyer came into the DC's office during the meeting to ask the DC something, and didn't even acknowledge the guy interviewing. He fortunately got another offer from Northwestern the same week, and decided that was a better fit. How many games did they win when Tressel was there? And how many have they won with Urban there?

If you have ever coached College ball you know exactly what a JUCO kid is. The Independence HC is a perfect example of a JUCO coach. He gets the job done though. If you don't want to work for a guy like that, don't work for him. Not every player will play for a coach like that either. Different strokes for different folks.

Meyer seems to be under the gun today for his handling of a staff member.
How many games-trophies he has won may not be germane any longer.

According to Sports-reference.com Meyer is 73-8 at OSU, so about 90% of the games. Tressel was 106-22 (on the field) so about 82% of the games.

We may now see if winning percentage at Ohio State is more important than condoning domestic violence by an assistant coach.

Is it really that much different? .828 106-22 buckeyefansonly.com/jimtressel/tresselsrecord.html.901 73-8 www.sports-reference.com/cfb/coaches/urban-meyer-1.htmlBeing a DONKEY doesn’t get you a .073 higher winning percentage...aside from more aggressive recruiting out of Meyer, there is no significant difference IMO. Opening up to HS Coaches or not isn’t the difference between Meyer’s slightly better winning percentage (taking over a program that was well maintained by the sweater vest).

I wasn't inferring that one coach was better than the other. They both were extremely successful is my point. And both may be undone by the poor choices of others.

I used to think Jim Harbaugh was an a$%hole. Just the way he looked on the sideline and stuff. Never met him but just had that jerky look. The Amazon Series has totally changed my mind. He is 180 from what I thought, I still don't like Mich, but Jimbo is stand up... I don't think Harbaugh is an a-hole. I do think he is nuts, though. I straight up love that man, though. He's certifiably insane, arguably a walking punchline at times (did you read the bit about chicken that came out recently???), and his sideline antics are hysterical, but I dig it 100%.

People feel they have a license to speak to people this way now because no one get smacked in the mouth anymore. It pretty much comes down to general human decency ... if you feel that you need to speak to another man this way on the regular either fire him because he’s not getting it done for you or look at yourself in the mirror because there is something seriously wrong with you. If you are an assistant and tolerate it then I have no sympathy for you . Obviously you can’t just go around smacking everyone who gets lippy with you but if you have a pair there is only so much a man can take until he starts wearing dresses and using the women’s room at target.

Okay, you took a weird turn there at the end. But I do wonder as an assistant where the line is that you have the right to defend yourself without it being seen defiant to the program goals. Being on the same page definitely doesn’t mean taking unwarranted verbal abuse so the hc can relieve his frustration and anger.

Yeah there is getting ripped which is part of the job for sure. Most of the time it is justified and effective to get a point across. If you can’t take that then you should prob not be a Coach. The line is drawn when it becomes personal , attacking someone as a man , their character, putting your hand on someone, talking about their families or personal situations that don’t have to do with football to illicit a response. That’s when enough is enough ... I think season 2 of last chance U is a prime example when Buddy Stevens says something about his OC’s wife or marriage (don’t remember the exact words) but I was like DAAAAAMN!!! That would be it for me right there . As someone stated earlier in the thread , the constant little man syndrome or being loud just to be loud after a while you just get tuned out and are the end of people’s jokes ....

I’m saying if you call yourself a man and constantly take belittling and personal /physical attacks from anyone regardless or rank/position then you might as well throw a skirt on because you cannot call yourself a man or you tolerate it or suck up to advance .... not me, never will be, not built that way.
Trying to make a joke and now I’m “That guy” explaining the joke so hint taken lol
Apparently no one is up to date on Targets bathroom policies jeeeeez guys get with the program lol ... was there with my daughter and literally saw a man in a dress come strolling outta the ladies restroom like it was business as usual ... my daughter needed to go , let’s just say I took her to the dunkin dounuts across the street... anyway moving on

This is not uncommon. I played D2 ball and my DC was like the ICC coach. Don’t get me wrong we loved him to death and would have ran through a brick wall for him (he was D2 coordinator of the year one year) but he regularly dropped F bombs and C bombs our way, kicked us out of practice, etc. He took over coaching my group one year and the leader of my position group (DBs) said it sucked we had to work so much harder but it was a blessing because he knew we would be so much better as a unit under him. We were.
I think as long as you can build strong relationships with people first you can get away with chewing out assistants and players in public. Let’s be honest, some coaches and players deserve it and we were 10-2 and 11-1 for a reason for a few years there.
Personally, I loved playing for guys like that but that’s just me. I coach like them I am very hard nosed but I do NOT cuss at players. I yell, but I don’t demean a young man in front of his teammates. Kids these days just can’t handle it they shut down instead of responding to it.

Physical abuse is one thing I wouldn’t just take but if some one was calling me a dumba$$ at the top of his voice I could handle that. Fans do that anyway
