Sry- my computer is messing up, but the game is great if you ask me... especially considering it is pretty much the 1st of its kind of any sport for gaming. Its play designer is not great, and the cpu coaches on the game are terrible, but it can be really fun once you get the hang of it... by the way, it doesnt have to take FOREVER like yall are describing... you can always sim past everything you dont feel like doing so it doesnt become too tedious. I would definitely get it if you already have a gaming console (you can always get it for PC too...)

cq thanks for the tip about deleting plays from the playbook....it helped tremendously........
I got the Saints and dismantled the team for draft picks (I got Leonard Pope, Reggie Bush, Vince Young, AJ Hawk (Converted to MLB), D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nate Salley (converted to OLB), and Donte Whitner)....lol, like that'd ever happen - but only rep two plays on offense and two plays on defense.
this is a lot like CRACK to feed my fix.
The more you delegate, the more you lose control of your team (which is why some will try to do everything )
Although, I'd like more control (coaching adjustments besides the choices they give you), I like it a lot more than PLAYING Madden or NCAA.
If anyone found a way to make the games longer than 5 min. QTRs let me know.

I took the Texans job and drafted Leinert. As of now, first preseason game, he sucks bad. Maybe if I take out a bunch of plays and run more he will progress faster. He stands in the pocket forever while I have wide open receivers. Any thoughts on how to make him better?

QB strategy (look deep first / look short first) and WR Progression (you tell which receivers you want him looking at) - hot routes also help (presnap adjustment)
Vince & Matt were about equal in ability in my scouting reports, and I knew I'd need Vince's legs to make plays happen because I traded away every decent receiver (he CF's plays up when he reads, too).

Hey Brophy, do you have it for PC? I have something that can change the quarters if you do.

I have it for the XBOX, and I found out that you can issue 'strategy' on varying levels (4 different sub menus of coaching points...which is cool).
However, the biggest gripe right now, is the GAMES.......I have not seen anything that lasts more than 5 min qtrs...which kind of makes all that time you put into making great players, meaningless......

I actually think that the quarter length is fine. 99% of the time, the ball gets snapped with 30+ seconds on the play-clock. If it were truely a "real-time" game, then it would have to simulate personel changes, and EVERY communication about hot routes/qb strategy/etc... would have to "eat" game clock.
In a real game, the ball gets snapped with less than 10 seconds on the game clock. So you are getting about 2 1/2 plays (in the game), for every "real" play. That basically extends the game into about 12 min quarters. That is fine by me. I get some "normal" stats out of it.
Since my QB sucks (Vince Young). Carnell Williams gets about 25-30 carries every game, and Vince Young always scrambles about 10 times a game. Then I pass about 20-30 times a game to try and build Vince Young's stats a little bit. That is barely under 70 plays. That is about right for a real game. Maybe a little on the short side, but not REALLY SHORT.

I haven't had any problems with that. It just won't give him the ball?

Coaches,
I have the game and have been playing it somewhat for the last few days. It starts off a little boring like most have stated. Maybe since I didn't sim past anything, that is the reason why. I tried simming past some of the drills, etc. and when I did like 3 players went down with injuries!! So from then on, I decided not to sim past anything. I have the KC Chiefs and drafted Matt as my QB as well as Holmes at WR. Matt's rating by the time preseason started was 81 or 82 and he has been doing extremely well for me. The first preseason game I had, we won 44-0 against the Texans (I know the Texans....wow), but Matt threw 3 touchdowns and 1 pick and had an extremely good game (and so did Larry Johnson). So I hope this is a sign for things to come. I haven't changed any of the plays really, but I do use every rep in practice to tell Matt what I want him to do on a particuliar play (it is very long and exhausting but hey that's coaching).
From looking at the play designer, you can not create any gimmicky offensive schemes such as wing-t, double wing, single wing, but that was alright with me as I installed a Spread Scheme for our offense. The CPU coaches I thought didn't do as bad as others have stated, but I did need to override them numerous times. What I found myself doing more than anything in the game was audibling, changing protections, shifting D linemen & LBers, and changing coverages. This is where some of the main thrill came in for me (as well as play calling). But it's a pretty decent game, something to pass the time until NCAA 07 comes out.
Sincerely, Coach D
P.S. Oh yea, this is for PS2.

I haven't had any problems with that. It just won't give him the ball? yeah, the exchange just NEVER happens....lol....I don't know if it's because the two are just too fast or what (RB is Reggie Bush). I think I enjoy this more than Madden, but that's not really saying much. I admit there are a LOT of things wrong with this game on so many levels, but I'll delude myself during my off-season. I am 0-3 with the Saints in regular season now. The real problems I've had so far, is either the CPU (and me at times) gets one fluke catch and breaks 17 tackles to score on a 90 yard hitch, or I lose in the final 2 minutes because of that. That kind of bugs me, because if you ever get down by more than two scores, you're toast because the CPU will just sit on the ball will the 5 min qtrs drain. Vince has been real spotty no matter how much I work with him....is there a way to TRADE my next year's draft picks at all? I need serious talent on my roster and can't get it, but I'd really like to offer up a 2007 draft pick (during the 2006 season), but can't seem to be able to do that.

Don't think you can do that until the off-season. As far as Vince Young goes...his speed, throwing power, and most of his stats are very good....unfortunately, his Accuracy Ratings, and awareness ratings are terrible. I just run the ball a lot, and try to throw passes in the red zone (need to improve the TD passes as one of my goals). Does anyone know how the Improvement Mechanism is at the end of the year? How does it work? Does it upgrade based on Playing Time, Performance, "Random" (from a "potential" stat), or what?
I haven't played in 2 nights because I've had to study for a test (Damn NCLB!), and I had some interviews for my 1st teaching job. I got an offer last night, so now I will be a teacher/coach instead of a "professional"/coach. Should make it 10x easier for me to get a HC job in the near future (next couple years).

so you don't actually play the game parts at all -- you just call plays and let it go?

Coach Chad,
That is correct, you just call the plays and let everything work out on its own. And actually you don't call the play, your coordinators call the plays and you are able to override them if you do not like the call. What you are able to do is call audibles, hot routes, formation shifts, reads for the QB, defensive line & LBer shifts, defensive line slants, coverages, etc. So you have a little control on how they execute the plays.
Sincerely, Coach D

I just got (just so I could continue to read all posts on the board and continue to understand them) the game. How do I hire coaches if I do not get them hired before that period ends?

I am taking this game back tonight for credit on NCAA 07......I tried an 'experiment' last night....I ran goal line QB sneak with Vince and ate up 2 qtrs of football on 20 plays. It's a nice concept, but poorly executed
----good one, Steve.....I fired that darn Jr High coach......lol

You have to go to your schedule, and "swap tasks" to the Coach Management Task. (It may be "staff management", I can't remember exactly). That means that you are going to have to miss out on some re-sign players/sign players periods. It won't kill you, but it's kind of a pain to go in and Swap things all the time.

I like how I can export to Madden as well. I try to get a Dynasty with all my Assistant Coaches and myself in NCAA, (and a Franchise in Madden) so when I have to wait for them to play their games, I will probably continue in on this game.

I purchased this game the day after it was released and I simply love it. I play coach mode in Madden and a pseudo-coach mode in NCAA because there is no other way for me to play. I've never been a coach but I love the feeling you get when something goes right because of the strategy that you employed.
I've got one question for you guys though, on a reallife-as it relates to the game level, how do you get the most out of a young QB. I'm using the Lions (7-2 through 9 Games) and I've got Reggie McNeal starting. He's really only had one good game and when I say it was good, I mean it. He threw for 254 yds and 2 touchdowns while rushing for 100+ yds and another touchdown. I attributed that to the fact that he was 100% prepared for the game...my first 100% prepared game of the season. Well, in my last game against the 49ers he was also fully prepared but he ended up going 2/16 before I pulled him. Thanks to about 88 rushing yds from Chris Brown and stellar defense, we were able to win 24-9.
His throw power rating is in the high 80's. His close accuracy rating is a 70 and his other accuracy ratings are in the 50's and 60's. His pass on the run rating is in the 80's, I believe, but he stinks at playaction.
Any help that you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't played that far yet. That is why I was wondering about the offseason after the super bowl. Does anyone know if you can have a particular player "focus" on an area in the offseason, or does his attributes go up on how many times he Practiced that kind of activity during the season?
For instance....If I run 6 Play-Actions EVERY practice section with my QB during the season, will his Play-Action go up at the end of the year, or what happens?
I'm almost done with my classes this summer, so I will be able to tackle the game hard in the weeks to come (hopefully).

I rented the game on Tuesday, and I am not sure if I like it very much. As it's just coaching. I coach for a living,so I know what it's like. I never realized I that much down time.If I did I would go nuts. Way to much time in the office and everything.

I'm going to be picking this game up today for the PS2. This should hold me over until NCAA 07 is released in a few weeks.

Quick question for anyone who has the game for PC, can you play it online against others or do you have to subscribe to something?

I have it for the PS2...
I've never personally played it... but my 5 year old opened it, and made me coach him on how to play it...
It seemed fun enough... but I haven't been motivated enough to get my Chicago Bear season started... and now with the forth coming Ncaa... I'm cold fellas, maybe the best player you've never met.... I don't think I'll ever get to playing it!
Anyone want to buy a "once" used PS2 copy?

Anyone want to buy mine? Played it only twice or three times, and now I'm sick of it. I just could never get into it. Everything's still in tact. Advertising it here before I'll sell it on eBay. Price is negotiable.
