A local coach call his scout team the MANIACS. We tried it and it only stuck for our scout teams for special teams.

This isn’t exactly what OP was asking. But we recognize a scout team offensive and defensive player of the week in front of the team each Monday. They get a free combo at the local McDonald’s. We have starters begging to get in on scout team.

We have starters begging to get in on scout team. We recognize at least one each week. There name goes up on the board with the Offensive, Defensive, and Special Teams POTW. We don't buy them food but they get to wear a POTW shirt on their game day (JV).

I just went in and asked for a manager. Told them we'd call our little cheerleading halftime show sponsored by McDonalds.

I don’t think you can give them a badass name, it comes off really disingenuous. Something fun like the aforementioned Banana Squad. My guys called themselves “Best Scout O in the Nation,” which flirted with the line between self-congratulatory and self-effacing. Make it fun and emphasize the positives but don’t feed them a line.

We just call them scout b/c they are giving us a live scouting report. Don't see anything wrong w/ it & I feel like a poster said above, you start calling them something bad a$$ and it does come off as disingenuous, b/c frankly...it is.
IMO, the name means nothing comparatively to the kid getting PT. Only thing to really make it better for him is to earn a spot or some time. The rest is smoke & mirrors which will only last so long.
As always, JMO.
PS - We are very liberal w/ getting our 2nd team guys reps and sometimes I have to pull teeth just to get them to take the initiative to even want to get in w/ OUR Team O segment. Some of them are content to be scout team & I don't think anything would really change that a whole lot.
Again,
JMO.
