We were up 35-7 going into the 4th. We went into overtime 35-35. We get d first. We stop them one the 1. We score on our first offensive play and avoid crisis.
If we don't pull this out it would have taken the cake. But, The actual worst was up 23 going into 4th and losing on a field goal as time expired.

2013 season. Up 21 at halftime twice in four weeks and ended up losing both. The kids had a ton of heart too. But once teams figured out that anybody with a pea shooter of an arm could complete verts all over us it was curtains.

May sound crazy but I honestly can't remember ever losing a game in which the team I coached had more than 14 point lead; and only once have I ever coached a team that came back from more than 21.

Up 18-0 going into the 4th quarter. Obviously we weren't up by a lot, but we had only given up about 40 yards up to that point. They scored 19 points in the 4th quarter, mainly off midline, to beat us. They probably had 200+ total yards in the 4th quarter alone.

Not quite the deficits described above, but in 2015 we led a game 13-0 with 9:50 left in 1st quarter on two special teams touchdowns, stopped a fake punt inside their 20 with about 8 minutes left in the 1st quarter...and managed to lose 22-20. Later that year we led a 1st round playoff game 14-0 at halftime and 21-9 going into 4th quarter and ended up losing 23-21.

JUST LAST WEEK, as a coach, we were up 20-0 at half, just flat out handling them in every scenario. We had to get a sack in 4th quarter to stop them from marching it down our throat yet again for the win. The only thing that saved us in the second half was that the stuff that they figured out to hurt us was on the ground and we made them get a few yards at a time so that the clock betrayed them.

Blew a 35-7 halftime lead once when we turned it over 4 times in 2nd half. Also blew a 16 point lead with 10 min to go in the game in the 3rd round one year.

From there it was like they were Ike and we were Tina....by middle of the 4th theyre up 35-30
And they stood on the gas till the last tick ...final was something like 45-30

Last year our varsity was down like 21-0 at the half in the state semi-finals. Come out to start the second half and the QB throws a pick 6 to make it 28-0. Came back to tie it 28-28 in the 4th, RB has over 300 yards (had over 1,000 in the 4 playoff games they played and over 2,500 for the season missing a game and a half), get stopped on a 3rd and 6, punt on 4th to pin them deep. Punter has best punt of the season, goes for a touchback. Other team throws a long TD pass with about a minute left to win the game. They go on to win state the next week. It was the first home playoff loss the program had since 2005.

Not exactly a "comeback" but certainly an interesting story.
I was in my second year as HC for an 8-man program that had won one game in five years (the week previous to this story).
We were tied with the #2 team in the state and perennial powerhouse 35-35 in the middle of the 3rd quarter. This seems like a high score but it's 8-man football so you 11-man guys can think of it as a 21-21 ball game. They got the ball and marched it 75 yards to make it 42-35. We got the kick-off and marched the length of the field and then turned it over on a fumble on the ten yard line. The kids shut down completely on defense, the run Iso like ten times and score, making the game 48-35.
Now the flood gates open. We lost 70-35. I kept things short and quaint with the kids after the game and then chewed my tongue off as parents and administrators patted us on the back as we walked to the locker room. I waited for all of the kids to leave the locker room and then let out a gigantic tirade of F-bombs in the coaches' office.

A few weeks ago, we were up 14 with 4 minutes left, and the ball. Ended up losing by 10.
Don't really even know what happened. It's not that the wheels fell off. It's that the wheels turned to pieces of flaming dog poop and they tried to put it out with gasoline, and then fell off and crushed us.
Each kid thought that they specifically had to press, so they tried to free style. Had a CB call his own blitz, gave up a long TD. Had a NT drop back in coverage on 4th and 2. Punter rolled one off his shin. Threw a pick6 at the end.
The closest I've ever been to just pulling a kid aside to tell him that I hate him and wish bad things on him, was after the game and he said we didn't play with any "urgency" when up 14.

JV game a few years ago. We were up 39-6 and were trying to get another score before halftime to assure a running clock. We turned it over and they scored...then got the second half kickoff and scored...then scored again and again and again and we ended up losing

JV game here as well, but we were up 22-0 on a team and driving for another score about midway through the second quarter before fumbling the ball away. Never got anything going on offense again and ended up losing 26-22

18-0 start of the 4th. Lost 19-18 I broke things after the game. I'm sure my DC killed parts of his liver.

Just last Friday, our 8th grade team was up 26-14 and had the ball with 2:45 to go...they lost 28-26...

Okay...I'll talk.
Up 27-7 to start the 4th quarter in a 2nd round playoff. Other team returns KO for TD and drives for the first time all game. Away clock operator probably gave the other team 1 minute of extra time. They scored with 20 seconds left to win 28-27.
On the flip side. One year we're losing 21-0 in the first quarter with 2 minutes left. Halftime score? 50-21...US!!! That's how explosive we were that year on offense.
And...my favorite. My son's 8th grade team was losing by 13 with 6 minutes left in a championship game. We return a KO for a TD and all the other team has to do is ground and pound. They fumble (we stripped it actually) and go on a drive and score with a minute left. Win by 2. It was glorious.

If you coach long enough you may experience both ends of these outcomes.
Usually when we lost, we lost right from the beginning.
