START TANSMISSION...
So today I started getting calls and then some text messages from a number I don't recognize. A prospective player, hereafter known as Child_Unit, met my JV HC at the back to school night and got interested in playing football here. He's a freshmen, they don't know what they are doing, so we are more lenient with these newbies. He's also a transfer so there's some more leeway. I ask who it is on the text and it's the Mom_Unit. I text with the Mom_Unit about what needs to be done and she starts telling me about their most recent football experience.
I'm laughing and PO'd at the same time. I hate when I hear stories like this, I think it makes all coaches look bad. I can't vouch for this other than what Mom_Unit has said here so it may be total claptrap.
Mom_Unit:
His last experience was not great. I think that made him not like football. Coaches were hard. I totally expect it. But some of the things they said to them shocked me. he was the only new player, the head coach put him in a position that wasn't right for him (wide receiver?) (to impress me, single Mom. Which didn't work) the coach thought if he gave him a good position it would get him a date with me!!!! No structure, no fun, no positivity. I think he will love football with the right coaches and team. He's FAST.
Coach_Unit:
He came by and got the papers to get started. Don’t worry about the fundraising paper. We’ll get him going, he’s got a good JV head coach and I think you will like the experience here.
Mom_Unit:
Ok great. Is it the last fundraiser?
Coach_Unit:
No we still have discount cards to sell if you want. The sales are over but Child_Unit could still participate. We also have the Grape Stomp in Murphy's. that's the last one.
Mom_Unit:
Ok. I will ask him if he wants too. I like fundraisers we usually do well. He should be home in the next few hours. I've never sent the boys shopping before. So this could be interesting. But thank you so much for all the help. He seemed excited. He's kinda shy at first. He loves to do track. Do these 2 sports over lap?
Coach_Unit:
No, track is spring. Very good coach, he'll really like him.
The cards have a LOT of value on them. When we meet up you'll see.
Mom_Unit:
Ok cool... I will be there for his first practice tomorrow.
Coach_Unit:
It will be good to meet you. Playing your son to get a date? That's a new one.
Mom_Unit:
Oh yeah. I was very clear that I had no interest.... he asked me to borrow money. Hahaha I just laughed. He is exact words were u look like ur doing good in life, u drive a BMW. Do u think u can help me with some money til I get paid??? Ummmm no u have no job. Ok so to be HONEST. I know NOTHING about football. U will figure that out. But he had him as a line man?? Haha prob not spelled right. But Child_Unit was to nice to plow into the other players. He was bigger and stronger. But to nice to hit em. Sooo I asked if there was another position he could try. Well he thought that was a good opportunity to get a date by putting him in a good position. So he made him a wide receiver. Well he's fast and can run SHORT distance but couldn't catch the ball for the life of him. The whole situation was a mess. I bought EVERY SINGLE snack for every game and even brought treats for practice. Had the entire team over for a pool party/sleepover. The money that was supposed to got to me for snacks I said to donate to the team fund for the end party. Well there was no party and he kept all the money. Hundreds of dollars. So the experience was bad for both of us. I paid $30 a pair and bought the entire team a pair of pink Nike elite socks for Breast cancer month. He took the credit and said he paid for them because he loves his team. Hahaha I was shocked.
