I was talking with an assistant today and we agreed that if we could just add one more stud at D-Line (specifically DE) we could really take off this year (not that there are any roaming the halls, just thinkng aloud)
With the season just around the corner for most of us it got me wondering how others felt. If you could add just one more quality player to your roster what position would it be at? I'm sure many of us would like to add multiple (and I'm sure that stud could play both sides of the ball) but which one specifically?

Probably a QB. A stud there always makes it easier. Maybe a center. Also would like to have another bad mama jama at LB and/or safety. Guess thats too many to have huh? lol

Always on OL or DL. A quality to game changing level OL/ DL player can help win you many games especially since games are won and lost in the trenches.

A quality safety would probably be useful some other places also.

An inside linebacker, which would allow us to move one of our current inside guys who is better suited to the outside.

QB. He's the straw that stirs the drink. After that I'd say OL

I said OL but could have easily been LB, both positions for us have 5 players on the field, so they tend to be a little thinner in regards to depth. O and D for us also revolve around those positions.

Honestly, if we just got all our guys not to have weird {censored} happening to them or conflicting with their schedule we are going to be in great shape!
-One was kidnapped by their dad who no longer had custody (he lives w/ an aunt & uncle). Police were actually looking for him. Luckily he was found, is back with his aunt & uncle & his dad is in jail (already had other warrants for his arrest).
-A grandma had a stroke & lives in New Orleans. We are in Michigan. That was not an overnight or during the day visit.
-Another had the grandma he lives with lose her job & ask him to start a new job so he can help pay bills. Instead of getting a weekend only job he took on a full time job not thinking through how he wasn't going to be able to keep the hours when school started.
-Another has a mom who died from an OD & was moving to a new school with his dad who is also a druggy. He has lived with his aunt or grandma, but dad has custody & insisted he moved with him.
-Our best LB has high BP & didn't pass his physical. He goes back to get it checked again this morning.
-Lastly & this a minor issue compared to the rest, but on our Varsity roster of 31 we have like 8 band guys & 2 of them are going to play both ways. They miss Mondays for band.

An interior OL or a solid FS.

A really dang good guard. Would move one guard to tackle and my OL would be solid.

If I could have my right tackle from last year who transferred bc his dad is stupid I would feel much better.

It would be too easy to ask for a gun slinger at QB who was super mobile... as much as a nasty ILB sounds nice, I will go with a quality corner. I have 1, so making both sides tough to throw would make life less stressful. Makes O coordinators a little leery of leaving the ball in the air a bit too long, etc. Might limit the playbook or make me feel better about dialing up that blitz that puts him on an island.

Depends on how good is the kid. If he is D1 caliber, a great RB or QB can hide 5 terrible OL. If he is just a good high school back, then it has to be on the line.

Yeah are we talking a quality player or a stud?

Yeah are we talking a quality player or a stud? That definition varies from place to place....so I'll say somewhere in between. A guy who would start and could compete for an all league honorable mention relative to the talent of your league. I figure for most of us here that means not a D1-D2 type guy, but someone whose level of talent and athleticism could lead them to get a shot at a smaller college. Sorry for the collegiate type references, I just feel like thats the easiest way to describe relative talent to the question.

Varies by year but this year would be OL. We already have the injury bug (1 or 2 being legit, and others being soft) and could always use more big boys to keep that run game going.

Well if we're talking quality player, we could probably still use a QB right now because it's a real big weak point for us and even just a solid player would be a big upgrade. It's hard to answer in the abstract because it's not a gamechanging player, it's an opportunity to replace your biggest weak point.

If it's just a "good" guy and not a "great" guy I'd say OL, then DL, then LB mostly because we play with a lot of those guys so one more good one can always find a place to really help.
If we were talking about a stud coming in I'd pick FS on defense and QB on offense.

Good news is that 1 1/2 weeks in all of these are now resolved or at least temporarily resolved (some family issues probably will still pop-up).

I guess it makes sense though that they want to get away from the crazy & have something in their lives that they can count on in their teammates & coaches to give them some resemblance of "normal".
