In Missouri we start official practice on July 31 this year. We have our jamboree and first two games in August. To me, it seems like a lot of football in the dog days of summer. When does your state start official practice?

Second week of August I think. Generally our first game is the last week in August.

Here is Indiana, School stats when first official day starts......it's been years since we had "Two a Days".
What's nice, however, are the summer rules, we are allowed 12 contact days (camps are not included) with shoulder pads and helmets.

We've started between July 31and August 2 every year since at least 2004 and every year guys say we seem to start earlier and earlier. π.
My senior year which was twenty years ago had our first game September 7th. Scrimmage would have been September 1st. Now our first game is August 18. That's zero week in Georgia. So the real week one is only a week earlier than it was 20 years ago.

In SC our coaching association all sports clinic runs the last weekend in July, Sun-Wed and we can start on that Friday. But most wait until the following Monday.
Preseason/camp/scrimmages/jamborees run for the following three weeks, but you can play a 'week zero' game.
That start means it's 18 weeks until the first weekend in December, which is the weekend the finals. (Except for the smallest classification which finishes the week before)

We have been starting on July 31st or August 1st for a long time in NC. I graduated in 2004 from HS and I remember starting official practice then.

August 7 in Michigan as well, although we will have conditioning the week before that, and a non-padded mini-camp the week before that (so you could argue July 24 is when we really get going).

August 7th in Iowa, which I think means Thursday 8/24 or Friday 8/25 is when most teams will play their first game. Teams are allowed to scrimmage the weekend before that.ay
The Kentucky date is the one that always blows me away in terms of how early it is.

My 1st year in Missouri after being in Illinois my entire career. Definitely a change, but I do like being able to have scrimmages against other teams during the summer!

In CA - They just changed the start date to 07/31. M-T are helmets only, W-TH-F are helmets & shoulder pads only, no lower body pads, no contact for the full week. Following week starts full contact.
Our scrimmage is 08/19 with a 5-team jamboree. The season start the following Friday, 08/25.
In 2018 everything moves to the left again, practice starts 07/23, 1st game is 08/17. School here starts on 08/15. This is so the state bowl games are played a week earlier in December so basketball is not so impacted.

July 27 for us.
But I am not starting until Tuesday Aug 1.
We played a spring game after 5 practices. I think we can be ready after 18 practice days and working on stuff all summer.

Aug 14th in MN begins. Can have 11 practices over the summer not counting 7-7, team meetings, and wt room. 4 in pads. A multi team scrimmage can be had the end of the 2nd week and then games for the next 7.5 weeks. State finals are the weekend of Thanksgiving.

NC on the 31st, for as long as I can remember its been the Monday the week of August 1 here. We have to do 2 days in helmets, 3 days in shells, then we can hit. Scrimmage on day 9. Play after 3 weeks.
