Can a football program be successful with an unsupportive administration? No but it also depends on what you consider "supportive".

No...you may survive it for a year or even longer if your program has been established. However, administration makes or breaks

Yes, you can win. But, they can make your life miserable along the way.

Really Really hard....
If you have talent that always trumps.. If your jimmy and joes on the field on friday night are better that helps a lot..
The thing with an administration that is not supportive is it really wears you down. If you are constantly trying to get coaches in the building and the administration shoots you down, if you are constantly "battling and fighting" with them.... That can really take it's toll. May take months and sometimes years. It also creates an unhealthy work environment. If you feel the administration does not support you then you are going to be disgruntled, in return not support them. Can be a pissing match. Not a good situation at all. After a while I find most coaches leave or resign. Just do not get paid enough money to constantly battle with them.

No. You can't build a winning "program" without serious admin support. You might a decent team due to talent every now and then, but you won't last and the program will never get built. A program needs finances, staff, academic scheduling and support, and a whole bunch of other nit picky things and if the admin isn't all in then it will be a constant battle.

I'm assuming "unsupportive" means apathetic to football, but not "anti-football" in that case... maybe as long as there isn't something else in the school that is the clear admin supported activity... i.e. band

In short, no. The program can only get so far. This is true not only for athletics but other co-curriculars as well such as marching band or glee club.

Single Wing guy... we can make a funny too! Heck, with the quarterback situation we have over the next few years we might be looking at single wing ourselves, and we have been facemelter for at least the past decade. Back on topic, how could you possibly run a successful program without a supportive administration? Again, I think that depends on what our definition of supportive is. For me, that's an administration that will back me if I run into problems with a parent, not override disciplinary actions I take, if they aren't going to provide me funding at least let me go out and get funding on my own (I worked at a place where they wanted to give us almost nothing, and then limit us to two fundraisers). These are really the only things I NEED out of admin. If we can get better than that, that's par for the course.
