We don't launder anything, kids take it home and do it themselves. In the weight room we do make them wear school gear during the school year because our weights are a class, so it's just like any other PE class dressing out.
In the summer we encourage then to wear football gear and lay some guilt on them if a bunch of guys aren't wearing it, but don't actually make them.

IMO If you use money from football fees to buy clothes. They better get them when it's over. Anything else is messed up

So am I understanding that pretty much everyone in here does team laundry? That's not really a thing in this part of CA. Depends on what you mean by "here". It seems like a lot of the people who answered this thread do. I didn't answer because we don't care if everybody dresses alike in the weight room and we don't launder anything other than game unis. The OP specifically asked for how people who do dress uniformly do it. That's their business. We wash, and keep, team stuff in-season. Jerseys, and thursday walk-thru "sprit pack" clothes. Everything else is theirs to do as they please.

That's what the vendors call them.
Is there a better label?

I always called it team gear or team packs. "Spirit Pack" was a little too glittery for me.

All that we do is hand them out when they come in. As long as I don't have to do the work they can call it a Hello Kitty Fun Pak for all I care.

We use football money to buy uniforms and all sorts of other stuff that the kids don't keep when they are finished. We do let them keep the stuff that they buy out of their own pocket hence the quitters walking around school with our logo on it.

Anything that a parent or student pays for that they can have they should have. Maybe I'm bitter, played for a high school that literally didn't give players any clothes to wear around. While the surrounding area schools decked their kids out. I could have a soft spot for this issue.

I just find it tacky when coaches have 10 different shirts and jackets. Pants bags etc. Yet the kids clothes are taken up at the end.

What about when the 6"2 240 pound kid who runs a 4.3 can't pay his fees? He doesn't pay them. Seen it happen way too much

In my program we will do without "much needed equipment" until we can get new stuff. I'm not a fan of participation fees but they're a fact of like in many places. Usually they're imposed by the school district rather than the coaches so you might not have a choice. If the budget is tight and I have to choose between new footballs or t-shirts, footballs win every time.

Would like to know what team the 6'2", 240 lb, 4.3 guy really didn't get to play for cause they couldn't pay. I'm thinking it's the Internet Central High Strawmen.

We require our kids to wear certain colors, doesn't have to be the same. it's there stuff no need to worry about washing it.
Our school and team sells so many tee shirts that it isn't hard to get a white, black, gray or blue school shirt.

I like it. Think it looks sharp. Never been in a HS program with that luxury. My main question is how do you make sure its sanitary? Are they wearing the same stuff each day and throwing it in their locker after the workout? Only program ive been a part of that did this was a college. And each player had 2 sets of the clothes and laundry was done in industrial washers by students daily. Do you guys that do this have a similar set up? Our high school wrestling team has practice gear (t-shirt and shorts) issued to them. At the end of each practice, all the kids put their practice gear in a laundry hamper and it gets washed that evening at school and the next morning, one of the coaches throws it in the dryer. Then the kids get it back the next night.

I'm a fan of the team looking the same. As Coach Vint said, it seems to take a lot of emphasis off of the "me" and puts it on the "we." If everyone looks the same then I think it takes away some sense of entitlement and makes it feel like everyone is equal. To breed a little extra competition, have kids wear team color shorts and a white t shirt. Coaches present some form of measurable criteria for players to EARN the official team gear. Becomes very easy to explain to the handful of kids still wearing white t shirts why they aren't #1 on the depth chart come spring practice; in fact its so visual that I doubt many would even ask why. Nobody wants to be the only one wearing the basic digs.

I see all these videos and pictures of teams in the weigjtroom during the off-season and everyone is dressed exactly the same. I like this but it's very tough for us to do. One, it's hard to get kids to buy stuff and 2 we don't have a ton of money in our budget to throw shirts and shorts at our players. And it's also a pet peeve of mine when I see quitters wearing our gear on campus. Those of you who do have your guys all dressed alike daily, how do you go about this? *PS This is for those who care about their guys being dressed alike. I'm sure there are plenty of coaches who don't find it to be of great importance, but I know there are plenty who do. If you like the idea of everyone being dressed the same, but don't want to spend $$ or see quitters wearing team gear, then I would suggest (as others have mentioned) tell them to wear same color shirt, same color shorts. Can buy at store. Heck, you could go really low budget and go white T shirts/undershirts.

Our district's business manager is a stickler which flows down hill to our book keeper. I get it, they are trying to cover their own behinds and have to answer to people I don't want to deal with. Anyway, we spell it out in a form for the parents as to what their fees go to: field maintenance, equipment upkeep/replacement (we try to kl, game socks (the kids love them, they keep these), game day meals (not just a PBJ too), and a gameday shirt they wear and keep instead of a jersey to class at lunch. Our fees are around the same for most schools in our area. However, we have several fundraisers that produces major funds for us.
As for the OP, we have our kids decked out in the same top and bottoms. After this year I don't see us changing as long as the HC and I are here. We have tried the different color/top for different grades. It wasn't what I planned for it to look like.

I like everyone in the same gear. I think it helps the mental toughness of being accountable in every aspect of the program. We preach all the time that the little things in sports is what makes the biggest difference. This is one of those little things that help our kids be a little more disciplined and focused on attention to detail. That way when we talk about the importance of doing little things right, they know it has to do with all aspects of our program, not just X's & O's. Then again I'm an option guy....attention to detail is part of the mentality.

OK, I have to chime in on this one: I have more important things to worry about than what the kids wear to work out. We do have them dressed in practice unis when we start actual football practice but dressing uniformly for weight lifting just seems like an unnecessary battle to fight. If we had an in school weights class or could afford to buy them workout outfits I might feel differently but we don't. All that we ask is that they wear appropriate workout gear: sneakers, shorts/sweats, and a t shirt that conforms to the school dress code (no profanity, drug/alcohol/tobacco references).

We ask our guys to wear team colours while they're representing the team. If they want they can buy branded team merch though an online store which can be customised. If they're buying gloves/base layers etc, we ask that they buy them in team colours. We're not as strict on what they wear in the weight room but most of our guys will wear their team shorts/t-shirts when they lift (if they have them).
