the thread is long...and I probably missed this somewhere...but I rage when I go to a coaching clinic and my coaching buddies come and talk to me about how many kids have transferred to the schools that MY team plays against. And they can't understanding how the state associations aren't doing anything about it.
Then I sit there with a weird face on...because I know that associations aren't doing anything...and there isn't a lot I can do when the WAR daddy transfer has 8 SEC offers as well as pretty much any college he cares about going to.

The only time I could see that being useful is 4th and a long mile, and make sure your safeties know to bat the ball down. We played "the team that never punts" a few years ago, 4th and long they pull up and throw it to the 5 yd line, you can guess what happened next. Our ball on the 2 instead of the 45. Been there before. If they can stop the run with 5 guys in the box, it's good BG to be a VERY long night. In that case your X's are better than their O's but their Jimmys are much better than your Joes.

After going through and reading this entire thread, what makes me rage is hearing about some of these coaches and I'm still struggling to move up to the high school level lol, but I digress.
What really makes me rage is coaches wanting to install things on game day, either in the class period or in the warm ups before the game. I am not talking about going over checks and things, I mean installing new plays or blitzes and then getting angry at the kids when they have no clue what is going on. I got the go ahead from my HC this year to say and he backed me up "hey guys we need to have whatever we want installed during practice and not right before the game". I remember saying that a few times this year before I had to give up.
Also, this season had players tell me that they thought we should put in some more plays, so I asked one of them what they were suppose to do on one of our base plays, he kinda chuckled and couldn't respond. I told them guys, that right there is exactly why we don't put anything else in, we are still working on the basics halfway through the season.

One thing that absolutely wears me out has to do with coaches who don't know how Hudl works.
For one, it's like every school has to have a dedicated "Hudl Guy," and when trying to trade film, have to wait for that one freaking guy to have time to send it to you, because no one else is capable. Secondly, when you finally do get film from the "Hudl Guy" he never clicks the appropriate stuff, so you get a film that is just wide and has no ODK breakdown. UGGGH

It's been brought up on this thread before about guys lamenting their lack of talent when giving clinic presentations. Maybe it only stuck out to me, because of this thread but at a clinic a couple weeks ago, I heard three different presenters say something to the effect of, "I'm not going to lie. The main reason we've been good is because we have very good players." It was nice to hear, lol!

Lazy coaches, That won't do anything till the last minute and then claim to be super busy and work super hard, or coaches that aren't even close to be organized, and coaches that are pack rats and keep every little old uniform for 50 years or can't "find" the time to put up unis or equipment they said they were going to.

Coaches that don't give out practice plans and expect the other coaches to just put a plan together during stretches. Hard to be organized and have a sound squad when we can't even practice efficiently.

He is one of those guys that means well just doesn't have a clue. He had coached some pop warner stuff and wasn't a liability he was just in way over his head....This guy also brought his camera on the varsity sideline to take pictures of the kids. "Sense I don't Coach the RB during the game I though I could just take some candid photos for the kids" Are you serious? You got to be kidding me..Half of y'all wish you were a fly on the wall when that got addressed during halftime.

Coaches that install different concepts but will sit around and get carved up ALL SEASON in a base concept that isn't working. Why did we waste our time installing the other stuff?!
Players that beg for game reps when they already missed 3 practices that week
Parents that stress the amount of touches their kid gets per game so they can get enough film for their "highlight tape"

The HS guy who presents at a clinic and mentions several times he has "regular guys" and they really have to "make it work" w/ what they have. Then he puts on the tape and......DUDES are huge and fast and has more guys on scholarship in one season then I've had in my whole career combined.
Just admit you have studs. Lots of guys don't win w/ studs. No shame in having talent.

Sorry to repeat some of the same things that have already been said, but:
* The guys who tell you that offenses like the wing t, single wing, and double wing are outdated or youth league offenses and that you can't win at the high school level with them.
* Kids who walk around 10 mins before you go on the field and they're wearing their jersey, then they're the last guy on the field because they have to put the jersey on their shoulder pads when it could have been done an hour ago.
* Coaches who don't know the schemes you run, don't bother to try to learn it, but are the first to start spitballing "why don't we run this, or why don't we run that" at coaches meetings.
* AD's who are more interested in appeasing pain in the ass parents rather than doing their job and trying to find out what actually is going on.
* Kids who constantly lose equipment- knee pads, thigh pads, practice jersey, and so forth.
* Kids who show up for the day before the game walk through in non-team colored shorts and t shirts.
* Parents who know for months that a physical is required to be able to participate, and then on the first day of practice, their kid doesn't have a physical.
* The parents that schedule family vacations during preseason camp, then wonder why their son isn't allowed to play in the first scrimmage or why they are on the 2nd team when the second scrimmage rolls around.
* Winter and spring sports coaches who tell their kids not to lift-when many of those kids also play football.
* "Open Gym" during the summer and fall.

Or the kid that his physical runs out mid-season and his mom can't get him a pediatrician appointment for two weeks "Son are you still in diapers?" holy crap physicals are the worst...that is the winner I remember having a list of about 35 kids that I had to call every few days all summer long to remind them about physicals, this was part of our summer work assignment...those moms got to hating me from calling so much, invariably the ones that got most upset about being bothered so much are the ones who still never got the physical done in time

That;s a good one...ive inherited one guy that i cant get rid of. He's been at the school for a decade and will be there after im gone. He is a good guy, does anything asked, doesnt mind getting dirty, etc, BUT cant/wont coach his damn position. Type that if given a 15 INDY period, he will be done with all his stuff in 10 and waste 5. We get to Friday nights and he has all the answers to what ails us.

Coaches that yell "watch the option!", "watch the fake!" etc and expect the players to know what to do
Coaches that refuse to learn how an offensive system works (it's not hard to find information on spread-inside zone, or read the dang playbook) but are the first to tell you why it doesn't work...

Could write volumes on this topic , but 1 that drives me nuts
As a NFL fan, when fans of one style of ball swear its about to revolutionize the NFL
"Wildcat is gonna chage the game"
"Zone read will change the NFL game forever"
"Spread has taken over the NFL look at the Patriots"
2 seasons later.......crickets

We had a kid say something of this nature during a practice probably 5 years ago that I still chuckle at today: [Playing DL and taking his sweet a$$ time to get in his stance]: "WATCH THE RUN! WATCH THE PASS! THEY COULD PRETTY MUCH DO ANYTHING HERE!" I lost it lol

The next time the situation came up he said, "Watch the run or pass". Alright, the quick kick is out. We've got them nailed!

I'd have to say one thing that usually irks me is when a coach picks someone to be "their guy" and toss out his name as a recommendation for whatever position needs to be filled. Need a good LB? My boy Scotty can do it. Need a DB? I think Scotty could play there. A solid Nose? Scotty needs to reps there, I think he could be the answer.
In the same area, it also bothers me when coaches attach themselves to a good athlete that was on the team they were on staff with, but they never coached him in any capacity. We had a former coach retweet a kids college commitment and say something like "yet another player from one of my teams playing on the next level." Even though he was the asst. OL coach when this kid was a freshman RB who was hurt the rest of the year after week 4, and the guy resigned his position 2 weeks after the season was over.

A few more to add to the list:
* Coaches who make up their mind that a kid "sucks" or "will never play for us" after one practice, because they aren't a star on the freshman team or JV team, or because their older brother wasn't any good at football.
* A varsity head coach who bitches and moans about the freshmen screwing up his practice, and yells at you (the freshman coach) to take them somewhere, anywhere, away from his drills, but then wants to be on the sideline calling the shots during freshman games.
* An AD or bus scheduler who either doesn't/forgets to schedule buses for your game or doesn't schedule enough buses for a game.
* When you tell your kids a million times what color jersey you're wearing for the game, and somebody still shows up with the wrong colored jersey.
* When you have a road game and everybody gets off the bus, and nobody grabs any of the stuff that has to come out to the field.

No crap just had a coach say this
"school ball is not set up to teach the sport but to build on skills and be competitive."
No wonder that team has never had a winning record, what pisses me off is that they were in the gym next to our weight room came and asked us to turn the music down because they could hear it, not that it was too loud, not that they were coaching anyway. Some folks can't coach their way out of a wet paper sack. Only consistent winning program in our school yet every other coach can go say something to the principal and we have to accommodate.

For some reason our cheerleaders were practicing in the same gym as our weight room once and their coach asked us to stop making so much noise. We weren't playing music, there was no yelling and screaming, or unusual banging of weights, just normal weight lifting noise. We told her that we'd see what we could do and went about our business.
