It would be a hell of a coaching story to hear how he recovered the team from a huge loss to a win the following year against the same dominant dynasty team...
Has to be some good psychological scheme built off that scenario...
Would love to hear that story from him...

It was 45-40 and kind of back and forth all night till the end.
Even so, I thought it still felt like Bama was in control the whole game.

I don't think it was a huge loss.
The leaders on the team as well as the coaches probably had a good idea if they took care of business in the off-season and in-season they could get back to this point.
I am sure they will talk about control what they can control, execute, and play ball.

Psychological scheme? Getting a chance to play the team you lost to the previous year in the NC game is a scenario that needs no outside motivation.

For what it's worth, I believe Clemson as a program and Dabo in particular are big on both Above the Line (Focus 3) and Jon Gordon (Energy Bus and Win in the Locker Room First), if you were looking at how they approach things in terms of culture and mental prep. Not 100% but pretty sure.

They lost by 5 and they'd come in ranked ahead of Alabama. We went to their clinic last year. He didn't really talk about much besides pushing your best players the hardest so they don't become complacent. |

I can't agree with that statement...because it is Lane Kiffin, a man who basically got fired from a job he had already quit. I can't agree with that statement...because it is Lane Kiffin, a man whose career mirrors Benjamin Buttons in that it seems to be going in reverse (FIU, Coordinator at Bama, HC at USC, HC at Tenn, HC in NFL seems to be the more natural progression, as opposed to HC in the NFL, then HC at Tenn, then HC at USC, then coordinator at Bama, and now HC at FIU) I can't agree with that statement...because it is Lane Kiffin. Nothing should surprise |

They do have to call this stuff on the goal line. Like watching a basketball game with the all the pick and rolls. One question. In bball its mostly the pick guy who gets open on the roll. This probably should work in football too esp if the D "switches" but you hardly ever see the ball thrown to the pick and roll guy?? The only example I can think of for us is the "slam- slide technique" on backside of Demeo's 3 step boot play. The offensive guy pick and rolls the EMLOS and is often open for a little dump pass |

with all the flack the refs from ND game a few years ago, not a chance in hell they call that PI. our area officials association, resident old timer that tells everyone what they did wrong on sat morning(great guy actually) says at every HC meeting in the summer/start of fall camp, "I would tell my guys on fridays, you get 2 flags all game....once you throw your 2nd, im taking the yella hankey and your done for the game, so you better make it a good un". i truly wish he was still running the show. you could easily throw a flag on every single play, HS, College, Pro. without a doubt there is holding every play. PI is such a judgement call, if only all refs followed the 2 flag rule, games wouldnt take 3 hrs. |

DB grabbed him and threw him down? im guessing you missed DB had both arms wrapped around WR shoulders with hands on back? the game winner is NO CHANCE, ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE for OPI.. not even close.. didn't even touch the defender covering Renfro the first pick play had a better argument, but WR did a fantastic job of showing a route |

It is not legal to block downfield before the pass is thrown and the pass goes beyond the line of scrimmage. They are getting away the illegal stuff because the refs are looking at whether it is a pick or rub. I will say that I need to look up the NCAA rules, but I am in favor of just making picks legal. Why not? You can at least switch a pick. I think that will actually make the illegal stuff easier to call. If you block any defender downfield before ball is thrown downfield, that is illegal. However, how you accomplish that is what makes it illegal in neither one of those plays did it appear the wr's were blocking downfield, especially the second one where the DB was all over the WR. Was the intent of both of those plays to pick off a defender? yes. did i think either was illegal? no. |
