Don't believe the hype, teaching is amazing and there is very little BS that comes with it (obviously there is variation place to place like anything else). One of the reasons I love teaching is the autonomy I am afforded, free of control and of other's BS. Plus, I get more time off then I know what to do with; also I get to see my players more often, and get to know them better as people.

I've had several other jobs and besides being a lifeguard in college this is the best job ever. Lifeguard beats it out because of the opportunities to get laid, but if I wasn't married I could probably make an argument for teaching as well. Its like any job that there is Some bull$hit that goes along with it because you're dealing with people's kids and they can get a little crazy sometimes. I have had jobs in different socio-economic areas and can tell you the crazy is worse in the more affluent schools IMO.

Most people will go after the HC which is understandable since it's his program. But I have never seen someone crusade against an asst. barring something harmful to a kid in some way.

My money is on this scenario: His kid is a for sure D1 college scholarship guy. No doubt. Chance at NFL. Plays defense. He also practices harder than everyone else, never makes mistakes, and is a great leader. The recruiting service that he pays for tells him all the time that he is a can't miss type kid. So does his personal tranier. But for some reason DCohio is a dumbass and doesn't want that kid playing on his defense. Stupid DC. Why wouldn't he want the best player and a D1 kid out there? Not sure why he yells at him when it was clearly the other players making mistakes or his idiotic defensive calls and schemes that put his kid in a bad position.

This year I'm teaching Special Ed. after working as an English and English/Social Studies teacher my entire career. I have to say that I love Special Ed. Admin doesn't understand or want to deal with most of what I do, I have the autonomy to set my schedule, and good Special Ed. teachers are scarce so they actually value what I do and don't see me as easily replaceable/scapegoatable if there's a single bad round of test scores. Contrast that to teaching English in the past, where everything was micromanaged to the point where I was chewed out if an administrator peaked in through my classroom door (which was required to be left unobstructed so they could do it) and saw me sitting at my desk while the kids worked on something.

If you look through his feed, he goes after the whole staff, but especially the HC and DC. He blames DC for their losses last year, though in their 8 wins they gave up 21 points or fewer. It reminds me of how Tennessee fans threw John Chavis under the bus every time that UT lost a game under Fulmer.

Like I wrote, "there is variation place to place like in anything else." We've all worked at bad places, but then again that exists in any profession, but for the most part teaching is an amazing profession. For the most part if you do your job well you are free to do it however you want with a great amount of autonomy.

Alternative scenario: He, a close friend, or relative wanted the job. Alternative scenario #2: He's just crazy and wants to be the Colin Cowherd or Skip Bayless of Massilon, OH, which is why he owns the website. If you read through his other tweets and see his comments on other HS teams nearby, he tries to style himself that way, so that's where my money goes. I doubt this guy has much personal connection to the program besides maybe being an alum. I doubt he's ever spoken to DC and probably didn't even play there. People now just don't see much difference between HS athletics and D1 or professional sports. It's the ESPN attitude filtering down and this guy is Exhibit A.

I agree that it can be, but I think the "variation place to place" here can be more state-by-state than school-to-school because of how states set the education agendas. Some states are actively working to standardize things to the point where teachers have as little autonomy as possible because they blame teachers for all that ails their educational system. I just wish I'd gone the SPED route years ago. This is so much better, but ironically it's a "shortage" area.

I remember a ton of fans griping about "3rd and Chavis" because his units gave up a lot of 3rd and longs due to running Cov. 3, especially against Florida. Plenty of them celebrated when he left.

Limit the connection people can make to you and it will be fine too. Also DC is a place that is different than most places and he knew/knows the deal. One of the last things I remember seeing from him said there are two types of coaches, 'those who have been fired and those who will be fired.' he knows there is pressure to win there and how crazy they are up there. Sucks for us and him this happened, but social media has only given tool bags a bigger voice.

I had a principal once tell me, "don't put anything in an email that you wouldn't want written on the front page of the New York Times." I have some coaching buddies with a warped sense of humor, and I get tempted from time to time. But I always try to keep her words in mind. I share with my coaches that we need to follow the "Dick Cheney" rule which is don't write anything down that is negative or that you wouldn't want read back to you on the witness stand. That means email, texts and social media. If you have a difficult conversation you want to have or something critical to say, or you want to vent, do it in person, on the phone or in another way that won't come back to haunt you. Do I faithfully adhere to this 100% of the time? No but, I do think just being aware of it helps control my response most of the time. Couldn't agree more. The written word can be taken out of context so much more easy than a face-to-face conversation. Emotions also are not transmitted very well through written communication. Duece

I try to abide to a simple rule: One does not have to explain what one has not said. But as I have mentioned numerous times on this board, I am a dinosaur. I do not use Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram or any of that stuff.
