Already booked, paid for, and a done deal for the wife and I to attend the AFCA in Nashville, TN... pvogel is trying to get me to put together the money to come stay with him for the Tampa Glazier though... don't know if I can afford 2 cross-country trips in one clinic season... we'll see. How is it taking your wife to clinics?
Took my wife to one clinic after we'd been married a few years.
Nine months later I became Daddy Coach.
Never again.

My wife loves clinics. It's a weekend vacation to a new city all by herself. We pretty much spend zero time together.

poundtherock1Good... this is her first time going to the AFCA, we got her in the wives association so they have their own little clinic they do. My wife was a head basketball coach, so she gets all the time, energy, etc... in both the in-season and off-season. She will go to 1 or 2 sessions and listen or she will go do things with other guys' wives that we know. She used to cutup my film, ODK, D&D, YL, Hash, Formation our film for us when I was the HC so that it was already done when we got home from the pub after a game. Now I'm at a school with people for that.

It's an invite only clinic, but If you contact Ken Leonard or Neal Taylor about wanting to come to the clinic they will more than likely let you. They are usually able to get some big name position coaches from around the Midwest and successful HS coaches who all seem to share a lot of valuable information.

Minneapolis Glazier & NDSU for sure. NDSU does a great job. They treat high school coaches very well & the beer, brats, & pork sandwiches never seem to run out at the coaches' social. Decent price as well. Considering the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association clinic. I've heard they have top notch local speakers & it falls on a weekend (March 23-25) that I don't anticipate any conflicts. Any info on the Wisconsin Clinic? I'm a Yooper (Western...3 miles from WI) so basically everything in Wisconsin is closer than anything in downstate Michigan. JVD Do you teach at East UP High, or West UP High?

You're showing your age again... Back in those days, you really could get an advantage by going to clinics, finding books and going to colleges..Now a days we learn everything from the internet. I am a better coach but others have closed basically closed the gap. Now IMO the advantage is on the field technology and the ability to adjust on the fly faster than your opponent

She would definitely get into the wife activities. Do you recommend staying at the convention hotel?

Detroit Glazier and University of Michigan clinic assuming Harbaugh keeps that thing going. It was great last year. I went to the AFCA, UM, and ND clinic last year and the UM clinic was the worst. Probably going to drop that one... a great line up but they didn't share much.

Yes... easier to just be there and not have to worry about travel except maybe 1 or 2 times if you want to get out with the wife a couple of times. Ther are always cabs out and about and so many people out walking around, its not bad at all. I've never been to Nashville, so not sure about the layout, but in Louisville and San Antonio you could have gone either way. Let me now when you guys are gonna get into town and we can meet up and do drinks or something.

It was better than the Glazier down here though. I think I went to 2 sessions (nothing else interested me out of the entire 3 day lineup) and the 2 I went to weren't great.

You want to stay there for the convention, but it'll be a ride into town from there.

JVD Do you teach at East UP High, or West UP High? I was in L'Anse (North Western) since 2007. Through a strange chain of events that started with me deploying to Afghanistan, my (now ex) wife finding someone new while I was there, working a state side Army job for 2.5 years, and a by chance conversation with a long lost friend.... I am now in Kingsford. I graduated from here and now I get to teach and coach here...pretty amazing really. Western edge of the U.P. About 1:45 North of Green Bay

OU clinic is a good one. Pittsburg State in SE Kansas does a good one... done entirely in the indoor facility with a lot of demonstrations and on-field walk through.

I made reservations before thanksgiving, and we were put in a hotel down the street. It is a pretty isolated area...except for a liquor store within walking distance

We will be going to the NC Coaches Winter Clinic and maybe hit up a college or two around the area. Have been to the AFCA twice and looking forward to it coming to Charlotte in 2018.

If you're going to to the AFCA convention you will not be disappointed! I wish I could go to that one especially being from Tennessee.
I'm going to the Glazier clinic in Chicago Feb. 3-5. I'll be taking my GF so if anyone knows of any good massage parlors I can send her to that would be great lol, and if you know of any Steak houses let me know!
