I was curious about what guys would REALISTICALLY do to improve their stadium.
I understand that we have it very well with our stadium, which is one of the nicest in the state. It's a city stadium that we share with three other schools but that's OK because we don't have to worry about field maintenance or painting lines. It seats 8000, has a good looking brick facade, a press box, and locker rooms. There is room for improvement, though.
1. Field turf. With four schools playing on it the grass field takes a beating. If there's bad weather late in the season sometimes it never recovers especially if a team makes a deep playoff run. The thing drives me crazy because the money was budgeted but for various reasons they never went ahead with it.
2. The locker room. Our visiting team's room is actually better than the home locker, which is small and oddly shaped. What happened was that after the stadium was built the stadium crew decided that they needed storage space so they walled off part of the locker room. Thing is, they don't use it now.
3. Press box. It's too small. I realize that we have it better than a lot of guys but the box is uncomfortably small. It wouldn't bother me as much except you can see that it was supposed to be bigger. There are braces on the stadium wall on both sides of the press box ,each about 10 yards from the box, which must have been the intended boundary.
So, what would you like to change, realistically? We'd all love to have one of those Texas palaces but since we won't be getting one what would you do to improve yours?

We need a much better field house and concession area. Everything is in the same building, but it's all so cramped during a game.
Need a new scoreboard, too. It went out twice this season, during games.
Wish list? Turf. And, that's all. Everything else is fine if we could have turf.

Our stadium was redone about 6-8 years ago, before I got there. Pressbox needs to be redone but they won't touch it because of the ADA. Floor tiles are popping up, the video platform on top is wood over the roof and the planks are coming undone and it's getting to be an adventure.
The field, which has been maintained each year, is literally disintegrating away. There are no real wear patterns or anything, the entire field is getting shorter and shorter every month. The vendor admitted that they knowingly installed bad materials. Apparently they found out before they installed it but went ahead and put it in for some reason. So the turf is going to be redone sometime soon, they start negotiations in February. Almost didn't get to play on it last year, they had to do a compression test and if that had failed the field would be tagged as unsafe and we could not have used it. They will do that again this year.
The stands are fine, the track is good. The sound system needs a lot of work, starting to get shorts in it so sometimes it works, sometimes 1 side is out, sometimes the other side is static.
Generally time for a redo of the supporting structures.

LOL
A bomb needs to be set off in the 1970's field house that I am almost certain should be condemned. We have rats that I'm sure you could saddle up. A couple of years ago we had a black snake we nicknamed "Lizzy"
Field turf (Current field had clay on top of bed rock. No joke they had to blast rock to put in what they call drainage)
Press box needs to be torn down and re-built. Current bleachers were updated 10-12 years ago and now block the view from the lower level of the press box. Now everyone (coaches included) have to stand in one big room on top)
Did I mention a bomb needed to set off in the field house?

We were able to get our field turf replaced last year because the surface that was placed on it (field turf) fell apart. It became so hard that I lost count of the number of concussions we had. Luckily it was still under warranty and the company came in and put in a new field. It was much nicer and not as hot. Instead of using all rubber infill, they mixed cork with it. It does not absorb as much heat. I would highly recommend this if you get field turf.

Almost everyone I know uses Hellas, www.hellasconstruction.com/Products/Turf/ . Where I am at, west Texas, there are very few grass fields. Even the 6 man schools have field turf stadiums. Our softball field has field turf. The farmers use up all the water in the aquifer so it is cheaper in the long run to put in field turf. We average only 20-25 inches of rain per year.

I like having a grass field a lot, but somebody fricked up the grass on our stadium this summer so now we have a giant stripe in the middle of the field that's completely different grass than the rest of it. The players always complain saying that stripe is almost impossible to plant in, and after watching film, they weren't lying. Turf might be our only option to fix this problem if we can't get the stripe to go away.
Also I'd like to find a new place for the speakers. The speakers aren't on the light poles (in front of the stands) anymore. Those speakers went out about 6 years ago, and we replaced them with new ones placed right on top of the pressbox. So every game, we have to turn everything way down to where we can barely hear music, announcements, or anything on the field. All of these old people come up to the pressbox at around 5:30 every Friday night complaining that the music is too loud. So then matters become worse as our players can barely hear anything and get frustrated.

If you can make a plan to use the field a lot more than you currently do then the business case for turf is easy to make.

Anybody use wraps or the like to spice up the locker room? What kind of $$$ did it cost you to outfit the place?

I just love hearing guys talk about having stadiums and getting to improve their fields. Where I was we had free fertilizer from the deer. One night I sat out there with my rifle and was popping all the armadillos that were digging up our irrigation system, worms. Our announcer's booth turned into a make shift deer/armadillo stand that night lol
