I am currently seeking a degree to become a high school/junior high teacher, but I would like to coach as well. I am looking for some resources that would give a beginning coach a well rounded set of fundamentals for all aspects of the game. I would like some recommendations for free resources, such as YouTube channels, or something relatively cheap ($0-100). So far I have looked at Glazier's vault, coaches-clinic.com's digital resources, and scoured through many YouTube videos, but everything I have found sems to be very niche, such as how to optimize a certain strategy, whereas I am looking fo something to help me understand the game, from a coaches standpoint, as a whole.
Sorry if this sounds too professional or whatever, I'm a laidback guy I promise.

I suggest that you visit the Youth football section of the board and look for the literature surrounding the youth game...both O & D. Youth Football publications give a real grass roots fundamental of the game, and you can find topics for either side of the ball. You can find lots of referrals there.

Two free things I'd highly recommend is Fritz Shurmur's Coaching Team Defense and Tubby Raymond's An Order of Football, both have been posted as PDF's on this message board and both give a great premise to offensive and defensive football.

THIS ^^^^^^^^^^^ After that you get some knowledge there, simply do some youtube searches on different topics. There are a lot of great free videos and clips of clinic talks on there for free, but you have to dig a little to find them. Other things to look at would be blogs. Coach Hoover and Brophy have some great stuff on their blogs about defense, especially if you look at their earlier posts and work your way up. SmartFootball has some good articles on offense, too. Also, don't discount special teams, lifting, etc. Having some knowledge of things like that is a way for a young coach to find a role and make a difference from Day 1. But always be humble and go with what the HC and higher ranking coaches say.

There's an endless amount of free material on the internet for you to look at. Joe Daniel football has a great podcast that you can listen to in your free time. Brophy has a fantastic blog. Thomas MacPherson has some good stuff on his YouTube channel.

Get a copy of The Football Coaching Bible. Good read that teaches some basic concepts about the game from all sides.

There are all kinds of powerpoints and blogs and coaching manuals out there for free. Just type in what you're looking for on Google and I'm sure you'll find some good stuff. This forum is a great place to start, Joe Daniel football has a ton of informative podcasts and articles, Coach BDud, Coach Vint, Brophy, Tom Macpherson, and others are all excellent sources with a variety of material. If you're looking for anything specific feel free to PM me here because I'm a relatively young coach who is in the process of gathering as much learning material as I can so maybe we can help each other out.
