Looking at fundraising options, how many teams do you need to have attend for a 7 on 7 to be profitable?
Is there a general template to follow for the time it will take? As in, we have 16 teams, our 7 on 7 will run x amount of hours.
Lastly, has anyone been brave enough to tackle a middle school 7 on 7? I haven't seen many and maybe there is a very good reason for that.
Thanks

MS 7/7 is probably rare just because so few MS teams have signed officiant offseason programs, not so many emphasize passing all that much. Finding a team that does both is rare enough, now you need to find three to put together a small tournament.
As far as the finances of it, it would really depend on your details.
Possible costs would be field rentals, insurance, lunch, T shirts, janitors, facilities.
So you can mock up tournaments of 4, 8, 16, 24 teams and get estimates of costs to figure out what it will cost per kid. Also do estimates of how many staff you'll need and how many hours the planning will take, and what their time is worth.
These tournaments benefit from economies of scale. Not because of real costs, because those are pretty directly linked to how many kids you have, but because the planning is basically the same effort either way.

We are going to try to do one this year for the first time. Like Chris said, only thing I am worried about is the number of teams available. We are in a larger population area, so I should be okay there. I think the first year will be kind of small, but once you get it established, you may have a better turn out the 2nd year.

Field rentals wouldn't apply, food would be on them or from our concessions. Agree on the MS, one of our MSs asked about it previously so I thought I'd at least look at it.
Thanks

How many of you HCs actually pay to go to 7on7s? I have always found that thought ridiculous when I can schedule a 4-team 7on7 and get in 2 hours of solid work for free.

I did an 8 team one once. Wanted 16 but it was the first year doing it. Bigger point is that its a good day to host a tourney and help your team get better. Paid for refs and that was it. Didn't charge much. Team fees basically covered the refs and then most of the profit was from the concession

It's pretty much "hey, wanna come put in work?" It's yes or no. We don't do it to fundraise. Last year we started doing it with our JVs as well. It paid dividends once the season hit and we had our entire passing game installed and had been repping it for weeks. It was hard finding other JV teams (I can't imagine trying to find MS teams) but we were able to find a few with the understanding that they hadn't put in the same work we did, so we tried not to completely unload on them.
