Coaches, have we ever considered doing a Huey get together using Google hangouts? I think that this board is one of the best coaching resources out there. If you're in the application there's a chat feature where a couple guys were talking about a couple different subjects and somebody mentioned that they wish they had access to a whiteboard that could be shown. What if we could set something up like that each week where maybe certain coaches on this board had a certain topic they are going to talk about if they were willing to and then anybody who wanted to join a hang out could?
Perhaps one week we could have something like a zone run game topic and another we could have a pattern match coverage topic or whatever else people on this board are particularly interested in. Is this something that people here be interested in?

I think this is a good idea. I'm not as familiar with Google hangouts as I should be, but I use Google for about everything else. I assume it's pretty user friendly.

Been really wanting/waiting for someone to do this. Can use periscope or YouTube live as well.

Yeah, doesn't have to be Google hangouts. If this is something that gets a lot of interest here I'd be happy to organize it. Find the best platform to support it, we can come up with topics as a group or however, and even archive the video somewhere.
I also think just Q and A sessions could be a cool thing where there isn't necessarily a planned topic, but just a dialogue about things guys are doing well.

This is a cool idea. The last staff I was on used hangouts to relay info during the school day so it's really user friendly. I think you have to pay for periscope and I know nothing about YouTube live but I'm about to go find out.

Periscope is free but is only on the phone so there is some limitation. YouTube live is probably the best solution because of its versatility.

Yeah but I'm not sure if people can view from their computer. People can type into a chat box to interact.

I would say the best would google hangouts, I believe the others would limit to only one presenter where google hangouts would allow more visual questions and back and forth than the others

I am thinking Google hangouts is the way to go. It is pretty versatile and what you can do and it would allow all participants to be present and ask questions of the presenter if this is something that we can get to happen. Ultimately where I would like to go with it is to have it be on us at night during the week or on the weekend although I don't want to interfere with guys watching pro or college football.

I'd love to get in too and might have a platform other than the one mentioned, where you can call in toll free as well. I am in Europe though, so in a very different time zone.

I've done something similar via skype, but it seemed complicated to set up and run (whoever ran it had to have all people's info for them to invite them); I thoroughly enjoyed it FWIW.

Guys, I think I have found our platform. I use it in my ed tech program at Michigan State and it has everything we want.
It's called Zoom. Has Android and iOS apps but can also be accessed via PC or MacBooks. Not sure about Chromebooks but I don't think so.
Anyway, it's similar to Google Hangout but superior. I schedule the clinic and can post a link here or on Twitter or wherever. You guys join it when it's time and we are ready to rock. Also has screen sharing abilities for the presenter if we want to watch film or use a presentation or something.
Guys overseas who just can't make the time zone work, my plan is to record the session and then I will host it either on my blog or post it in HueyTube on this site.
Gonna be awesome if we can get participants and presenters, and can probably get more out of it than some other clinics.

Also zoom is free. You just need an email to sign up.

It does look like there is a 40 minute limit on meetings of 3-50 people. You do have to upgrade to a pay plan if it's more than 50. That may or may not be an issue.

I'm definitely in on this. I tested out some YouTube live stuff today as well. YouTube live has potential but needs a little more behind the scenes work to make it do what we would need.

I would propose using Zoom as it really is the best platform out there. If I need to upgrade because participants are plentiful I propose doing a crowd fund (this could be as low as $1 per person depending on how many people are attending regularly). Upgrading for more time/participants is $150 for the year which isn't bad. I'm just not in a position where I can pay for it out of my own pocket right now.

Other thoughts:
When should we start? Sometime after guys are done with the playoffs. Maybe early December? Wait until x-mas break?
Anybody interested in speaking?

Another option would be freeconferencecall.com. Apparently it allows up to 1000 participants and is free. Would probably need some guys to test it out with me just to make sure it has what we want though.

Definitely in on this, being that my season is over I would love to get started as soon as possible, but I think after Thanksgiving would be perfect. Would all topics be covered?

This sounds like a great idea! I don't know if I would be qualified to speak on any topics but I would certainly love to listen in on and learn from some of the more experienced coaches from this board. It could be an excellent way to keep ourselves sharp over the winter season and be exposed to some new ideas as well as build networking relationships.

Sounds like a fun idea and a way to survive these wonderfully, mild, Wisconsin winters.
Sarcasm on the wonderful winters, these things suck.

This is a good idea. I have used hangouts for some private clinics with programs where the logistics didn't allow a live clinic. A few years ago a bunch of us got together on Thursday evenings during the winter and did Skype sessions. We had 6 to 8 of us talking ball. We picked a topic each week and had a different coach present. We had some great coaches get involved and everyone got a lot out of it. Zoom sounds interesting. I am going to check it out.

I think that we should do this ASAP. Make it a weekly or do it one or more times a week. Everyone doesn't have to be here to do this....
