So, I have come to the realization that I will be coaching somewhere new next season (a mix of football stuff and school stuff); and as such I have began to get all my affairs in order. Now part of that includes updating my personal defensive playbook (what I run) which is not really anything I've gotten from one person but rather a mix of things I've taken from places and a lot of my own ideas.
Now, wherever I end up next I may DC, I may not; I have experience as a DC and have done well as one at the places I have been. I am not going out only looking for a place to DC, but if a job is available I would like to be ready to put my best foot forward. But here's my dilema: I have all my drills ready, my progression plan from Frosh to Varsity, philosophy, etc. all this good stuff, but my defense has no name. Thats right, the first slide of my coaches playbook PPT. is blank; so I am here for help, to find out from you all what I should name my defense.
Now, I have a couple ideas already:
A) Name it after the places I am coming from. The last two schools I was at were both very well respected programs, that went far in the playoffs and have a name that carries some cache. Coincidentally, they were both nicknamed 'Lions', so maybe "Lion Defense".
B) Name it after what it does schematically. The multiple stack pattern match defense just sounds too wordy to me though.
C) Name it after whatever the mascot is at the place I am applying for. So if I apply for the Eagles then it is the "Eagles Defense", or if I apply for the Spartans then it is the "Spartans Defense". Might be slick, but comes off as a little bit presumptuous.
D) Take ideas from everyone here and come up with something awesome. Facemelter is already an offense, but hey that sounds cool, lets do that but better.
So come on everyone, lets really think about this and come up with a name for a defense that strikes fear in the opposition and lets the other coaches know we are going to dominate.
*-PLEASE note that this is done in fun. I realize that nobody would actually care about the name of my defense, and that it really doesn't matter. That being written if I get something I like I may actually put it on there somewhere.
