The refs tend to talk with each head coach during pre-game, ask if we'd like to do the coin toss early, and try to get it worked in during warm-ups so teams can just come out and play. I'd rather have it done so we can go back in to the locker room, talk with the kids, say our team prayer, and get back out to play.

We go out 20 minutes before kick off. A short lines warm-up, mostly just for a pump up. Run 6-8 plays then sideline. I and most kids get to school about an our or so before kick off. We meet at a 1/2 hour for 10 minutes before kick off before we go out. Been doing it for about 5 years though always was shorter than most other teams. Been coaching for 35 years. Works for us. I'm usually eating at a local diner when I see the other team getting off the highway going to our school.

For a 7:30 KO:
5:30 Special Teams check 5:35 Defensive Meetings 5:45 Offensive Meetings 5:55 First group on the field (kickers, returners, snappers) Go through stretch & warm-up as a group then go through pre-game. 6:05 Second Group on the field (remaining skill players including QB's) stretch and warm up as a group 6:10 Routes on air 6:15 Last group comes out (lineman) stretch and warm-up as a group 6:25 Line up and spell out, then break into defensive individual groups 6:35 Offensive Individual groups 6:45 Defensive pursuit drill 6:50 Offensive team, end with a FG 7:00 Off the field
Between 7:00 and 7:25 (when we return to the field) we watch a motivational video with highlights from previous game. Players get one last chance to relax and rehydrate before the game.

We used to use a long pre-game warmup, but went to a shorter one about the 5th game of the year. Seems to work much better with not wearing kids out and giving us more time to get taped and dressed for road games. I noticed a real energy drop when we had oid, did, and qb/wr warm up involved before 7:30 kickoff schedule 5:45 kickers to field 6:20 qb's to warmup 6:28 to field 6:34 team stretch/dynamic warm-up 6:47 team offense 6:53 team defense 6:58 field goal 7:03 special teams unit by unit personel check/review 7:08 team to locker room 7:21 captains with refs 7:23 back to field

If we could do the coin toss and national anthem all before the teams come out of the locker room after warm ups I would love it.

Here's a question...why do we all run a scout version of their plays and then run some of our plays before the game? I mean if the kids didn't get it during the week, is a 5 minute run thru gonna help? Just more wasted time because "we've always done it that way" I think.

After individual defensive position warm-ups we go through pursuit drills with our #1 and #2 defense. I've never been anywhere that actually ran plays against the defense during pre-game.

Never ran a Scout version of opponent's plays in Pre-Game.
That would've just aggravated hell out of coaches like it did Monday-Thursday. Besides none of our kids were going to run those plays during the game, and that's what we were getting ready for.
When we went Team we would run our Offense vs. our Defense if we had the numbers, otherwise just against "air."

If we don't get it by now, I haven't done my job. I used to do a quick pursuit drill but this year figured phuk it, save their legs. We go through individual and then all come together. I say a lot of wild and crazy things and we come out and kick their a$$.

That's funny how different places do things differently because I can say that I've literally never seen a HS game where both teams didn't run scout plays in pre game. Makes you wonder why it's caught on around here to the point that everybody does it, but in other places it seems very common to not do it.

Every team I have coached against, and all of the teams I have coached have done this....and I have always (and always will) think it is a stupid waste of time. It is really funny to see coaches pretend not to be looking, and yet here we go showing the opponent what we are going to do. The team we played this week, I happened to see them in a formation we had not seen on any of the 4 scout films I have on them. So I hurried up and let my guys know how to line up against it. Would have been completely surprised (I think some of our kids were still) had that not shown it during their warm up.

Does anybody else have to be off the field for Band/Whatever? In our league (7:00 games) the general rule is that we have to be off the field from 6:30-6:55. So our pregame is 5:40 - Kickers, Snappers, Returners, Holders, QBS (get loose) 5:50 - Skill kids - One hand drill 6:00 - Whole Team - Flex 6:10 - Off Indy 6:14 - Def Indy 6:18 - Subs (HC loves it, drives me nuts) 6:25 - 4 Off plays vs Scout - finish with PAT 6:28 - 3 Def plays vs Scout - finish with Punt 6:30 - Back to locker room
Having that 25 mins isn't ideal, but it is the expectation in our league

I like skill going out early without shoulder pads on to get loosened up. Then when rest of team comes down they put their pads on for group work. Don't mind a longer pre-game as long as its a stretch loosen up time. I hated the full padded practice type before college games too.
