Coaches,
For those of you that use JUGS machines in practice what type (Brand/Model) of ball are using? We are having issues with Wilson leathers (GST) popping after repeated use. The synthetics don't ever seem to have the proper rotation when they come out either. Just curious if anyone buys footballs for JUGS specifically or just what you normally use? Thanks for your response.

What do you mean by popping? We use NIKE balls and the machine really scuffs up these balls. After using them a couple of day, the balls look as if we tried to sand asphalt with them. We started to use gym class rubber balls; there did not seem to be as much wear and tear on the balls.

Use the cheapest rubber balls you can find, overinflate, and just a little bit of finger pressure in the top as you feed them. At lower speeds they just won't spin great. And at lower speeds it takes a while to get the wheels spun up again.

We cut one open and the interior bladder is made out of a cheap plastic that comes apart inside. Thanks for the response.

Yeah you need to reinflate every time and fill them as much as possible.

we use the rubber version that wilson sells. looks just like the gst. The jugs will tear up the gst in a hurry from my experience.

Yes, rubber or cheap synthetic leather balls are the way to go. Just be ready to replace the synthetic balls often. And as Coach Clement mentioned, apply a little pressure on top of the ball.
One thing I would add that we have found to be crucial, is to start with the laces facing down slightly to the right side. Think 5 o'clock if looking through rear tip of the ball. If that doesn't help, play around with different wheel angles. We almost gave up using ours in year one, until we found these tricks, the hard way.
