I'll start by saying that I don't mean this to be political. If it becomes a debate I'll put it in the trash myself.
A recent thread on another site got me curious. In it they were discussing having HS playoff games on a college campus where they allow the open carry of firearms. This seemed very weird to me because in every stadium in our league you have to go through metal detectors to get in.
I've also been to games where people were allowed to smoke in the stadium. Because they're considered school property, stadiums here are all smoke-free.
We play in a city stadium where, when you enter, you choose to sit on the Home or Visitor side and that's it. You can't change sides after that.
I was wondering about others' experiences with stuff like this. Have you seen things at other places that definitely wouldn't fly at your place?
Again, let's not get into arguments about something is right or wrong. Just talk about when you've seen and don't name names.

What about having playoff games on campuses where mass shootings have happened?
Seems contradictory to me...

Is there a way to change policies for high school events only? For example, I know in IL and Iowa, if games are held in places that normally sell alcohol, they just simply don't offer those beverages during the high school events.

State law forbids alcohol, tobacco, and firearms on college campuses, too, so those would be non-issues here, though there's been a drive to allow firearms after banning smoking.
We have the HS championship games on college campuses.

They have the state championship games here in NFL stadiums but don't sell beer, why not? Might be nice to have one while watching the games, it would probably be 8 bucks like it is at an NFL game but still....

Seems to me to be a crazy idea to let some of the people I've seen at high school games carry guns. Certainly no high schools around here allow guns, nor do they allow smoking. Our championship games are played at college stadiums, but I do not believed they allow guns there, either. I know some that do not allow fans to move from one side to another, but many allow them to sit where they want. Venues that allow the sales of alcohol do not do so during high school games, so I would think that if they allowed guns those could also be prohibited in high school games the same way.
But heck, who knows? I can see some folks thinking alcohol, guns and football are a good mixture.

We played a game in Stockton, CA a few years back, the fence around the stadium was topped in razor wire. There were separate entrances and exits for home and away, and a fence ran down the middle of the snack bar to keep the crowds separate. I had not ever seen anything like that and haven't seen it since.

I dont remember the specifics but it turned out they got caught using fake addresses and some other stuff and the coach got fired and the team got put on some kind of probation. This sounds weird but if I remembwr correctly I read that their players were allowed to transfer out to a new school without sitting out or something like that, the team we faced ended up being really bad that year. Probably the weirdest game day experience I've had.

Didn't they get the death penalty for illegally importing players from American Samoa Had a few guys a year live with the coaches or coaches families Something like that

When I was coaching HS we went to some pretty sketchy areas of the valley...definitely lots of guns, and lots of flasks.
Some weeks we didn't even go into the locker room after games...just straight to the bus.

Inner-city rivalry games in south florida are always interesting. There is usually too much money exchanging hands in the bleachers for anything to happen during the game. We leave as quickly as possible, there are usually a few neighborhood incidents around the town each season.

Last district I worked with had separate entrances for home and away as well as parking lots; people had to go through metal detectors as they came in the stadium and had police mixed through the crowd as well as at the gates. Never stayed after the game always got on the bus right after. One night after a game against our rival school in same school district there was a shooting in the parking lot after the game. We heard about it as we pulled into the field house parking lot. District had a field all teams played at instead of having 5 different fields.
A few years before I got there the game was sold out and they had people hoping a 10 ft concrete wall to watch the game had over 12,000 people there for regular season game. The local 'hoods put up a spread and took bets; all the kids new the spread by the middle of the week for those games so it was like the rosey65 said money changing hands in the stands was common place.

I work in a pretty conservative state and firearms, tobacco, and booze are banned on school property. It doesn't matter if you have a concealed weapons permit or not.
BUT, with that being said, I know of a few folks who have concealed a pistol on them at sporting events. I kicked one out when I was an athletic director.

Dafuq's wrong with people? HS football is so serious that fans may have to shoot each other to show their devotion to the hometown school they dropped out of 30 years ago...
