Just because you've had a concussion does not mean your brain will age more quickly or you'll get Alzheimer's," says Steven Broglio, Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Director of the Neurotrauma Research Laboratory at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology, in speaking in 2012 about a study on which he was lead author which suggests that concussions may speed up the brain's natural aging process.[5] Broglio stressed that the influence of various lifestyle and environmental factors, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, physical exercise, family history (genetics), whether or not a concussed athlete "exercises" their brain, and even how dense the gray matter in a person's brain is, which gives them greater "cognitive reserve" to draw upon may also impact the brain's aging process, and that "concussion may only be one small factor." There's a huge difference between a 175 pound athlete that runs ~17 miles per hour and a 250 pound athlete that runs ~22 miles per hour. I assume you teach PHYSICS?? LOL!!! I teach the weight room! Would you like me to figure this out in foot pounds or Newtons? High School example = 1691 foot pounds NFL example = 4045 foot pounds

Turf or grass would affect the Coefficient of Friction though don't you think?

I would like to be see a study that shows the effects of CTE on people who played up through high school (no college or pro) to see the correlation and the frequency of CTE. I understand the problem in the NFL with the size and speed of all the athletes involved. I just can't imagine CTE being a huge issue (high %) for athletes who compete until the end of high school only. This is the answer right here. We didnt have the technology until very recently to accurately study evidence of brain trauma unless it was an autopsy. The brain trauma (onset disease) is a precursor to CTE. Of a representative sample of HS players, how pervasive is the evidence of the disease? That would determine the scope of risk to give everyone an actionable decision. This is akin to saying McDonalds french fries give you butthole cancer. Okay, I believe you, but how many french fries do I have to eat to increase my butthole cancer risk? You said butthole. Hehe

I am glad I will be retired before the people killing our country and values kill off football. Free bubble wrap for everyone, the government will protect you from cradle to grave, you just have to do what they say.
It's just sad.

Mods, feel free to delete. Sure not trying to start something political, even though I did.

When you're examining the brains of guys who died, often from suicide, after exhibiting bizarre behavior and mood issues beforehand you're probably going to find some things wrong with them.

2.39 times greater. So its exponential growth as 250 is not 2.39x greater than 175 and 22mph is not 2.39 greater than 17mph.
The collisions aren't even on the same level.

Just watched a news item that says they are coming out with a blood test that in 20 minutes (prick your finger)can see if you have a concussion. If not, you could go back in the game. Not even sure how to react to that.
Thoughts???
