Hey guys, just wanted to share the story of our season this year.
I'm an assistant at Winooski High School and unfortunately our school has played it's last down due to lack of numbers. This season, thanks to our rigorous off season program and aid from the Double Wing we were able to play our season out. We had a couple of games with only 12 or 13 healthy and 90% of our players never left the field.
What's incredible is with our line of Sophomores and Freshman (some of which from different countries who have never even seen a football before), we still had both our HBs run for over 1000 yards and averaged 51 points in a 4 game span (we won't mention that we did give up 84 points in one game on defense) including beating a team of 60 kids, which was definitely the highlight of the season.
I know how crazy it sounds going into a season like that, but our 6 seniors didn't want it any other way. As a small football community, such as the state of Vermont, we still find this feat incredible and believe that other people should know how hard these kids worked to keep a tradition alive.

Wow coach that's crazy. Is 8 man an option? Or are you guys closing the doors for good?

Sadly 8 man is not an option. There's only 32 teams in the entire state and only one more with numbers small enough to even consider 8 man

Obviously above your pay grade, but why not merge leagues with New Hampshire or Maine?

Obviously above your pay grade, but why not merge leagues with New Hampshire or Maine? My best guess would have to be cost. Either that or the difference in talent. Vermont plays New Hampshire every year in the Shrine Bowl and the games haven't even been close recently. It got to the point where NH is now sending their B team in.
