Sometimes we call it the middle school gym if it is volleyball or basketball season. LOL Ours is called the elementary school multi purpose room. Usually we just stay outside in the rain/snow/etc or go to the weight room to lift if it lightnings.

Their schedule certainly isn't cupcakes, even the lower divisions schools are usually tough.

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone have any experience getting an indoor facility built? It's a program goal of ours (obviously long term) and would love to hear from someone who does have some experience.
If anyone has some experience with it please shoot me a PM.
Thanks

We are also trying to come up with a plan for building an indoor field. Looking at something around 40 yards long and maybe #s to #s wide. Another school in our area (TN) built one and labeled it as a PE building so it was state funded mostly. Cost around $1.3 million.

For whatever it's worth, I looked into it, and a full size facility in one of those inflatable bubble domes is around 3-4 million, but probably on the cheaper end if you aren't in the world's coldest city.

When I coached in Texas we had budgets that were pretty huge and we HAD to spend every dime. Remember that most of these places have unreal facilities. Not just athletics.

Thats a misleading article. I coach at one of the schools on that list. We have maybe 40 yards long and 40 yards wide that is indoors and we practiced in it a total of 0 times this season. We use it for some running and agility type stuff in off season, but besides having a place to practice without going to the gym when the weather gets really bad, it isn't a huge asset. The biggest indicator in that article though is simply the support for football by those school districts. It shows that most of your other facilities that support football are good, so you can spend money on an indoor instead of having to renovate a stadium or locker room etc.

I can tell you from a quick count, just of the schools that I've been inside their indoor at the very least 10 of those are not full field. I would say their is maybe a dozen of those that are full field indoor facilities.

Here in Oklahoma I think there is only 2 that are full fields, most are 60-80 yards long and regulation width. Broken arrow high is about to add a full 5 lane elevated above the field on edges.
And baseball, wrestling soccer all kinds of programs use them

A school about 20 minutes away just built a 40 yd indoor facility. They use it year round for all sports with football getting priority. They get their money's worth. I have to say, it would be an extravagance, but one that I would use the h**l out of if I had it.

It's called a myth for me...unless I somehow pulls off the biggest & luckiest miracle and some college coach is gullible enough to hire me as a college assistant, there's never going to be an actual indoor facility where I'm at. Only the select few HS in the whole country has those. You would be surprised how many schools in Texas have indoors. I know of some schools that have less then 200 kids total in the high school that have an indoor facility. I was at a place in west texas that had one. We didn't use it much during the season but November thru February we used every day for offseason.
