What do you guys do in the off season as coaches? When do you buckle down and get back to work?

We finish our season (hopefully) the week before Thanksgiving. I'll go back and watch playoff film, write up some end of the year evaluations and work on some off season stuff for the kids whose parents want that. Then I'll break until Christmas. After that I'm working with our middle and high school staffs and getting a clinic together for our entire staff (4 divisions probably 25 coaches) to move to a vertically integrated system.

Off season? Is that really a thing? I don't know what that means. We have the pre-season, the regular season, the post-season, the strength & conditioning season (for older players), the skills development season (these last two generally run concurrently), the winter league season, the spring league season (I generally do not participate in these last two seasons, but they are available in this area), the 7-on-7 season, the clinic/camp season, and then we're back to the next pre-season. I don't have any idea how an "off-season" fits in there anywhere.

I've already began tweaking things and looking at what didn't work, why, and what changes to make to hopefully improve. The best time to review and make tweaks is while it's fresh in your mind IMO. We don't do anything team related until summer (I coach baseball in spring time), but I still do my professional development stuff for football (read books/coaching dvds/etc.) year round.

We finished Sunday. Was a difficult season for me on a couple of levels so I'm going to veg for a bit. I'll probably go to the conference finals this weekend, go to a HS game or two, and NOT think in depth about any coaching stuff for a bit. I have Board duties that I'll attend to as well.
We have some decisions to make as a program, and I have a decision to make on whether I coach next year. I'll probably wander over to the local Glazier in February, but I may not know anything for sure about my own situation until May/June.
From an X's and O's standpoint I'm pretty good with what I'm doing now so I won't do a ton other than keep an eye open for stuff that piques my interest on the various boards. Will probably spend some time figuring out how to better teach blocking and tackling, practice plans, etc. As of now, no idea when I'll start to think more in depth about that.

I hit a Glazier or two usually. Sometimes I coach with an 8x8 tackle league. I end up reading a few coaching books(not just football, I will read books by successful coaches from other sports). I watch a bunch of video clinics on the Glazier. Right now, we are still alive so I at least have another week of the season left. Not sure if I'm coaching next season. Parents, boards, other coaches being absolutely clueless about simple things etc. are just making it difficult to enjoy myself or be effective. If I come back I will concentrate on special teams in the off season.

The reason I've stayed at the middle school and never tried to get back into HS coaching is I'm not into the grind any more. I've been getting my off season workouts going about Feb or March, and that's been plenty for me. For the OP, I don't do much of anything outside of checking this site til the middle of February. Then it's workouts, spring practice, summer workouts, play ball. This year I'm going to start working more football related stuff into my spring and summer workouts.

A little here, a little there. I mainly do whatever my fiance wants since football season is my time to be selfish. If she's at work, I do a little film study or playbook work for next season ... or just play video games.
