Hey everyone, currently volunteering in IL for a private catholic high school. Heard a lot about the states that deliver great athletes and where the opportunity is. Heard a lot about Texas, Cali, and Florida. Should I consider looking out of state for a job? Thoughts? Advise? Thanks. A couple of things: First, coaching is very much a networking profession, which means first impressions are extremely important if you don't have any connections (which would usually be the case if you were looking out of state). Here, your first impression is a bit weak (as petty as this sounds) because you didn't bother to put this post in the right place. There is a subsection specifically designated for career advice/discussion. Second, keep in mind that coaching doesn't pay a living wage. On this board when you are talking about careers, it is often beneficial to specify if you are a "teacher/coach" or a coach who makes his living doing something else.

Do you have an issue with me or something? Why do you talk to people as if you know everything? I'm getting used to this site and its entirety so back off seriously. What is with you? I'm trying to get advise and learn. I'm sure you didn't know how to use this site or didn't have any knowledge of coaching. God. As I stated, this is a profession based on networking. The chances of you having any network with people out of state are slim to none, so now all you have left is a first impression. What kind of first impression is going to be made by someone who : 1) doesn't have the diligence to put a post in the correct section? 2) whose first or second post is basically "Hey guys, I am a volunteer coach, but one day I hope to be a HC. What kind of offense should I run?" 3) Who also posts basically "Hey guys, I am a volunteer 19 year old, but the HC at the school i volunteer at has a crappy record. Should I go elsewhere?" Keep in mind, you are the one saying you want to get a job in an area where football is important...so consider the applicant pool for jobs, and consider the character traits exhibited in these posts. What kind of first impression are you going to make? See-- that's the problem. You are nineteen and you are looking to be coddled. Not going to happen. "What is it with me?" you ask? All I have done is held up a mirror. Instead of sulking or complaining about how you aren't being addressed delicately, focus on the content of the message.
