Last night we were up 32-0 with about 1:20 left.
We have LOW numbers... but still had mostly all of our starters off on defense.
The other team lines up to run a play and 3 guys move early. No flag...
They do throw a flag for holding, but the back goes in for a touchdown.
At first I think they threw the flag for illegal motion or something... and was wondering why they did not stop the play.
Well I never see a preliminary signal.
He is talking to my kids and then gives the holding signal... the decline signal... then the touchdown signal...
Anyone ever have a kid be "allowed" to decline a penalty in such an obvious situation?

That's why you never let kids talk to refs without a script.
When I did MS ball the refs didn't like it that I had 3 talking captains; one for if we won the toss, one if we lost the toss, one if we got yt decide which end to defend.
Now on varsity we just teach the kids to say 'I need to check with my coach.......'
Plus, it's relationship thing with the refs, if you treat them good then they will lean towards your sideline when a call is going your way.

You don't have your kids check with you before deciding whether to accept or decline a penalty?

You don't have your kids check with you before deciding whether to accept or decline a penalty? My captains do... lesson learned for late in the game situation where no captains or even seniors are in the game. I have had officials spoon feed kids at the coin toss when a deferment is called and the kid almost elects to give the ball to the other team at the start of both halves... Just figured they would not let a 9th grader make such a call without being sure he was fully aware.

I had an official tell my team to line up in victory formation and try to hurry them up to the line this week. Same guy yelled at the side judge about me because down by 4 with 2 minutes I start talking about the play clock. Same game one of my OL is trailing a play and gets hit in the back 10-15 yards behind the play. He ends up breaking his arm in two spots. Needless to say I was t very happy.

Could be worse I had a referee deliberately come off his line, truck me on the sideline and throw a flag. I was 3-4 feet away from the sideline behind the yard markers. Players laughed their ***es off. I'm still angry about it.

Head of the officials association told me this morning that since they have radios now, the correct way is for the Ref to call to the sideline and ask what I want. He said that particular Ref is old school and is trying to buck the system, but he will make sure he gets it right.
