One of the fun things about living in the foothills/forests of central CA is the possibility of fires, and we have a beauty going on right now. After 4 years of drought the forests are bone dry and ready to explode, and boy, are they are exploding. The Butte fire in CA, 12k acres last night at 10PM, 35k today at 0900, 50k+ now with 10% containment. Got almost 1,600 firefighters working it.
Our game was supposed to be at home tonight, it got changed to going to the other school this morning at 0600 because of air quality and that the football field was covered in ash, and now has been rescheduled to Monday. And the AD got special permission from the CIF to have our next game on Friday when it is scheduled. Heading right for our house, maybe another 10-18 hours and it will be in the neighborhood. I'm at the house right now, all packed up, waiting for an official order to evacuate. They closed all the schools in the county today, bused our kids to the local fairground (Frogtown, where the hold the annual Frogjump - Mark Twain and all that). Kids were really upset this morning when we met, some families were sheltering families that had already been evacuated, some knew families that had lost houses, several had been kept home by parents.
Kinda puts a whole different perspective on the game and what it can mean. Our rivals, 12 miles away, may suffer some major damage from this, one of the evacuation zones ends at the school property line. We play them in 2 weeks at their place. I'm wondering, if things continue as they seem, if we will have the game and if so, what can our team do to show support/solidarity. My players know their players, some are cousins and such.
