I had just ran a rocket sweep (wing-t) with my best player on a slick field, he had planted to cut and fell.

Mine came from our own HC. The team we were playing were doing nothing but running inside. My plan as DC was to concentrate on this, it was obvious they only had four or five play just to the inside to keep things simple (it was early on in the season and youth level.) I had just gotten done given out spy assignments and headed back to the sidelines as they lined up on our own forty yard line.
All of a sudden I hear, "What are you guys doing!? Blitz! Blitz! Blitz! Get up on that line and Blitz at the corners!" All of my linebackers went to the line and the corners moved in. Needless to say, they ran inside for the fourtieth time inside and by the time everyone reached the QB, he was too busy watching his FB running through a huge hole for a forty yard touchdown.
The only thing worse than that, was he continued to do it for the rest of the game, so they starting running a sweep and killing us with that. I felt like sitting on the bench and watching, so much for the defensive game plan. We lended up losing 45-0 and as DC, of course, I took the heat.

A few years ago we (as a staff) went to go scout. We sat in the stands of the team we were scouting (Lets call them team A) and they were playing a team (B) that should have beaten them soundly. Anyway team A was running the ball really well against team B and getting pretty good yardage on each carry needless to say team As coach stayed with the run and ran the same play a few times in a row. Now the stands at this field sit pretty close to the sidelines near the end of the first half I think their was a timeout a parent from team A yelled "RUN SOMETHING ELSE" everyone on the sidelines turned around and the coaches just shook their heads. We just looked at each other and laughed..... Mugz, The best part of that was that Team A was a SERIOUS underdog playing the 2-time defending state champs (team B) and Team A WON in overtime running that scheme. We heard some classics that day: "Throw the ball, coach!!" That's always a very creative one!!

We played a team who's fans (parents) were desperately screaming at their kids, "JUST TACKLE EVERYBODY IN THE BACKFIELD"....I was cracking up, we run gun option, mis direction stuff and nobody could find the football.

I have two:
We were scouting a conference game. One of the teams had an incredible run during the 80's and 90's but have since dropped off are usually around .500. Many of the older fans are still into the team and aren't exactly overjoyed about the current stretch. Anyway, they were playing an I option team and didn't have anyone on the pitch so they picked up big yards 3 or 4 plays in a row. One older man, probably 60-65 years old and a diehard fan, spent the series yelling "GET HIM! GET HIM! GET HIM!" (Yeah, he was "that guy"). The next play the tailback picks up about 12 yards and near the end of the run the old guy goes "GET HIM! YOU JERK!" I'm not sure if he was mad at someone on the defense or the tailback, but I'm sure calling him a jerk wasn't helping.
The other one was when I was playing. We ran the option and the other team had no idea where the ball was. Our QB was close to 150 yards in the first quarter. After one of his runs I was lined up before we kicked off to them and I was near their sideline. I hear a coach yelling at one of the linebackers saying "YOU HAVE THE QUARTERBACK!! QUARTER.......BACK!!!!!!" I guess he thought it might get through to the kid if he said quarterback like it was two words.

I was guilty of being "that guy" when my daughter was in middle school and on our school basketball team. My friend was the coach and he knew I was very encouraging when I got loud and would never say anything negative about the players or the coaches, but I was always a stickler for playing a suffocating defense and had taught my daughter to play very tight and really pester her opponent. One game, I am in the stands and my daughter is just eating up this girl who is playing point. I am getting very excited and loudly encouraging her to "stick on her", "deny, deny, deny", all those defense cliches the basketball guys use. After a timeout our girls come out on defense and I am LOUDLY encouraging my daughter to "Get in her face!", but she plays very loose and I can see she is getting frustrated. Next trip down the floor I start up again and she signals timeout to the ref and turns to me in the stands and yells, "DAD, WE'RE IN ZONE!! CAN YOU PLEASE PAY ATTENTION!!". The crowd roars with laughter and I am looking for an opening in the stands to climb under. It was very embarrassing and after the game I asked the coach why he changed the defense and he laughs and tells me that he just wanted to see what happened if I didn't notice. We both still tell the story when we get together. I still cheered pretty loud for our girls, but I paid better attention to the defense coming out of timeouts.

I coached at Charleston Southern University in the early 90's and we played at Liberty University, which Jerry Falwell started.
Anyway, Liberty is a baptist school and the student section was right behind the visitor's bench. As the offensive is sitting with the OL coach the students started throwing those little bibles at the players. Funniest thing I ever saw.

During our first year at the school, we went from running the Wing-T to the Spread. The old staff ran the wing-t. Our first JV game, We scored on our first two possessions. Crowd was wild, and everything. The rest of he game belong to the other team. One said to me, the new offense is some BS, they need to send that packing, just like they should send the staff packing.
The other good one: A line of parents are waiting for us to come up and blast us after a hard loss. A parent comes and asks me when we are you coming up? The next week, after a win, a line of parents are waiting to congratulate us, so the same parent comes up to me, and asks so when are you coming up?
The moral for me "Don't let their fans kill you, or make you happy, just trust what you are doing."
That was a big lesson learned during my first year.

We are a double wing team. We just ran all over the 5th ranked team in the state and ended up winning a game that we were picked to get smoked. The score was 14-6, and we never threw the ball all game.
An irate parent leaving the game was heard saying...."The only reason they won was because they run that stupid offense where you never pass the ball. Thats B*** S***, it should be illegal!!!"
