I am looking for different types of scrimmage formats. I am hosting a scrimmage at home and want to use a format that will allow for the us to get the most out of a scrimmage without just lining up and playing a game. Any suggestions or ideas.

Pretty standard here is 10 plays O. 10 plays D for 4 or 5 series each. Then game situation for a quarter. Some people will throw in and mandate that certain series are with the 2s.

When we are involved in a 4 way type scrimmage we do the 15 plays #1 O 15 plays #1 D, 10 plays #2 O 10 plays #2 D, 10 plays rest of O 10 plays rest of D. No Special Teams.
We have also done a format where we played a half of football, real game scenario. No live rush on PAT/Field Goal or Punt. KO team would run down KOR return would take a knee. Play the Punt where it lays. Kick off would be a touch back unless pooch kicked. After the half was complete we would do a 2 min period, you would just go, regardless of the outcome score, stop, turnover, until your 2 minutes were up. If you scored, were stopped, or turned the ball over you rest at the -40. Then 10 reps of O and 10 reps of D for those guys who didn't play.

Here's what we are going to try with our first one.
No special teams. Each time it starts on the -40 yard line. Team 1 gets 8 offensive plays no matter the outcome - turnover or TD the ball goes back to the -40. After 8 plays ball is placed back on the -40 and Team 1 starts an offensive drive until they are stopped. Inside the +30 you can go for it on 4th down.
Once the drive is over, teams flip.

-20 yard line, 6-10 plays (what ever you determine), then a drive from that spot on the field Alternate each team Sometimes put in punt,FG/xpt dead, sometimes live Sometimes do a set period of punt, PAT to break it up instead Designate if you want to go JV/backups for a series or 2
That's pretty standard here. If it is 3 way you just have a rotation set up
If it is a jamboree, then it's for a quarter/half depending on the set up. Rarely ever do KO unless it is a jamboree, except just as a run through, no contact

We run a joint practice prior to our first game of the year. We do some specials and situational play.
3 KO/KOR reps (6 total) 25 Plays of Offense/Defense ( reps for 1sts, 9 reps for 2nds, 9 reps for 2nds/3rds) 3 Punt/PR reps (6 total) 12 plays Green Zone Offense/Red Zone Defense (20 yards going in w/ 1st Downs - 1sts with some 2nds) 12 plays Red Zone Offense/Green Zone Defense (10 yards going out - 1sts with some 2nds)
